ALBANY, N.Y. - New York Gov. George Pataki has signed legislation that creates a French and Indian War 250th Anniversary Commemoration Commission.

The 19-member commission is charged with promoting the 250th anniversary of the war that pitted Britain and the American colonies against the French and their Indian allies.

The first shots in the war were fired in western Pennsylvania in 1754. The major fighting ended in 1760, with France surrendering Canada to the British in a treaty signed three years later.

In between those years, upstate New York was the site of several important battles, from Lake George in the east to Fort Niagara in the west.

The commemoration commission will be in charge of promoting French and Indian War anniversaries beginning next year and running into 2010.

Major events such as battle re-enactments are planned during that span in Lake George, Ticonderoga, Fort Niagara and elsewhere.

Perhaps there should be a panel of PA, NY, QU and ON delegates to commerate this event. It defined North American culturewfor a long time and in Canada it is still a defining role (There are still 2 islands in North America that are controlled by France). It is good to see that there si a commeration of the colonial history that extends beyond the American cival war, or the final battle between the French and English in Quebec.

North America is the best continent ever. It should be one giant Federal Republic. A Federal Republic made up of three federal Republics. Wow. I love this Phish DVD. And this scarf that a cute DZ made for me. I forget which thread I am in. Happy Thanksgiving.
