Random Notes
Congratulations to Auburn for initiating 35 associates now brothers, that is awesome. Drury with 29 associates initiated wow that is impressive how big is that school? I would like to see more chapters with over 20 guys because we only have 4 right now, I thought LSU would be initiating a lot more than 19, I know they are on probation that could be hurting them. I know some schools are smaller so everyone do the best you can but this year is looking good so far.
I have heard a few chapters have gotten in trouble for hazing and I think one of the punishments is complete BS, but the way they got in trouble is really really embarrassing. Having your pledges kidnap your brothers, wow that is cool. No that sucks actually. Anyway lets stay out of trouble because it seems like we have been doing very well as a whole this year, you don't see one of our chapters in trouble every week for major problems like PIKE, SAE, or Sigma Chi, those fraternities have made the news quite frequently. |
Actually I don't think it is embarrassing at all. Having your AM's kidnap brothers sounds like it could be a fun event. Getting them to work together as a team...I love events like that. I don't see how AM's kidnapping brothers is hazing. The IFC of that University needs a good kick in the ass.
Everything seems to be considered hazing now-a-days. |
If you wanna work together as a team why don't you try a chapter retreat. The event at Florida is stupid and it is VERY EMBARRASING. Yes the definition of hazing for many college administrations is getting out of hand but they want to end all the dangerous activities going on in many fraternities, and if chapters don't begin to conform to their standards then you can kiss them goodbye.
Seeing someone blindfolded and taken off campus is definitely a liability what if a police officer sees you, what if some random student sees you, not worth the risk. |
The event didn't take place on campus. I still think the kidnapping is a good idea but we will no longer do it cause of what IFC thinks about it. We do chapter retreats and a lot of other stuff too.
|
Was kidnapped twice and the second was a breaking and entering into the house My Then Wife and I lived in. I was pissed but got over it very quick.
The thing now, is that any improprioirity with anything Greek Attached to it is a NO NO! Period no matter what We think about it. Rish Management has become a huge Political item that anything looks bad whether it is or not. Ergo, just dont do it, period. I am sure that having Members Fall backward and have Members catch them could be construed as Hazing if push came to shove. While it may seem like great fun at the time, when the Police become involved, there will be problems.:( Think about an Idea not only once but several times before it is implimented.:D Have a Turkey!:) |
In reality there will always be cliques, classes and groups no matter what. There's nothing wrong with that. I didn't hang out with each and everyone of my chapter brothers, and honestly, I outright didn't like the way several of them acted. Hell in my own family I don't like many of my relatives! I don't see anything wrong with AM only events, as long as there are other events where they get to meet the brothers as well. I was part of many AM only events, like a scavenger hunt in finding Gamma Zeta facts and LXA facts.

GammaZeta, there is more truth than can be imagined. Hell, I stated a local and gave approval for any new member and was like oil and water with one in particular. But so be it.:)
Have you checked on the local at Amherst? I sent and email and have heard nada!:( You could be a huge asset for them even though of your strong feelings. Be a Brother as there are a lot of us out here! If you get my drift! :D |
Hi Tom,
I haven't had a chance to head up to Amherst yet, been really busy, especially this time of year. I may be able to break away sometime this week to head up there for lunch and maybe take a few hours off up there and relax, maybe see if I can contact any of them while I'm up there. Could you please PM me some of the people I should ask for, the background story, stuff you already discussed with them and any other information you can give me so I don't go knocking on the door empty handed. If I can get up there, I think I'm going to spend some time researching in the Umass Archives for any interesting LXA items. Umass has a pretty extensive archives and I'm sure I'll be able to pick up some good trivia items! |
GammaZeta, PM your way!

If Florida got put on probation for a year for what they did. Good luck to the chapter at UGA.
|
Talked one of the G C Brothers From E M last night. Not as bad as it sounded. He was pretty upbeat.
Will ahve to wait and see what comes out from the UGa situation. Seems to be more than what is written. How many times have We seen media blow things out of proportion along with IHQ because of Risk Management? To many times until a full review is ment. |
Yea I really thought the UF situation was blown out of proportion, I am pretty pissed the way IHQ handled that, a year of probation is nuts. It was embarrassing and eventually made the news that is the only thing I did not like about it.
I too, really hate how the media blows things up and hoosier really should not have posted some of the things he did in that article. |
Ryan,
As bad as you don't want to hear this, that article WAS open to the public way before the posting here. So for you to say he should not have posted it is preposterous; do you not realize that the very same article was available in the NY Times, many local papers, and even Fox News? Tim Hill Epsilon-Phi 1450 Student Advisory Committee, Midwest Conclave |
Definitely did not realize that. The thing is not many college students read those papers and probaly not many people on this website, they read their local papers. Most of the people get their information about greeks on this website. Therefore, Hoosier is bringing up an old risk management issue that has nothing to do with this issue at hand.
It sounds like the UGA situation has been totally blown out of proportion but since it made the media it has blown it up. There have been some major problems at a lot of fraternity's at UT this year, some serious hazing problems and none of it hits the media. Dean of Students, and IFC take care of things themselves and correct problems, they do not involve the national headquarters of fraternities. On a lighter note, congratulations Tim for initiating 15 associates at Kentucky. I heard you guys had a good rush and worked hard this semester. |
Ryan, I get the same info that hoosier does so I let him put it on site. That is his thing and I for one am glad he does. He is a TKE Gentleman and an Alum.
Why? Well, it just shows how friggen stupid Chapters can be and I mean All Greek Orgs. It is newsworthy especially when it hits Kansas City Local Media. Beleive it or not with All Of The Colleges in the Metro Area withing 1-2 hour drive at the most. LXA actually has 7 Zetas.C:cool: I have only been to 6 though. Also, thanks for keeping the updates on Member Initiation figures. Wish IHQ would get more Info out to us poor lost Alums! |
