Oscar Predictions....

Okay, what is going to win?

I am thinking Jamie Foxx will the big one, or his film will win Best Picture...

I have high hopes that The life Aquatic will win something as well... I mean, it IS going to be a comedy, but Wes Anderson is nearly flawless...

Michael Moore will probably win again for the Doc's...

What do you think?

Best Picture - The Passion

Best Actor - Jim Cavaziel or Jamie Foxx or Johnny Depp

Best Actress - ??? I don't even know who the leading ladies are at this point.

Best Director - Mel Gibson

Is there a reason why that's so funny?

CutiePie2000 11-20-2004 10:51 PM

I wouldn't be surprised if Jude Law wangles his way in there for something.

Michael Moore won't win. He claims that he will not allow his "documentary" to be entered, as there is a documentary he considers more deserving.

Besides, how can F9/11 be a documentary which the director has admitted that parts of the movie are fake?

Yeah, because I have the same chance of winning two Oscars this year.

Why do you think this movie has no chance at all? Is it b/c of all the controversy surrounding it? I would think it would garner at least the nomination if not the win. It's a great movie that's beautifully done. Just forget about the content & focus on it as a movie & the quality of it + the acting & you'll see what I'm talking about.

Unfortunately, talent and quality don't equal an Oscar. Just ask "Saving Private Ryan" and "Almost Famous." Or, look at movies like "Titanic," where quality was absent.

It is WAY too controversial, and the Academy isn't going to step into that controversy by giving it best picture.

I haven't seen enough movies this year to really judge; there's a lot of buzz around Jamie Foxx, but Paul Giamatti and Don Cheadle also could merit consideration for Best Actor.

Best Actress Imelda Staunton for "Vera Drake"

I think that the Passion of the Christ will receive multiple nominations.

Didn't it say somwhere that the academy mighr be placing Passions in the Foreign Film category?

BetteDavisEyes 11-21-2004 08:44 PM

I think that was the Golden Globes. Best Film in the Golden Globes has to be awarded to a film that is filmed in English.
The Academy can & does award other language films with nominations. Wasn't Il Postino (The Postman) nominated a few years ago?

Focus on the movie's quality? Its not a "great" movie in the true definition of that word. Its no Lawrence of Arabia or Casablanca.

Thank Fucking God someone brought up the robbing of Saving Private Ryan......picking a stupid unfeasible story about an unrealistic portrayal of Shakespeare versus one of the best war epics ever made?

Ever since then, the Oscars have had no credibility. The only contenders are those who do well in the box office, not those who are critically acclaimed and well revered by moviegoers NOT seduced by mindless stunts and a bland script.
