Michigan/Surrounding Area Getaway?

Sorry I did a search and didn't find what I'm looking for.

A friend and I are going away for the night at the end of November, but we can't figure out anywhere to go. We thought of Niagara Falls but it's a pointless 5 hour trip just for one night.

Anyone have any ideas? Anything in Ohio, Illinois, Ontario, that would be 4 hours of less from Detroit. Now we're thinking of Frankenmuth but there's only so much to do there. Thanks!

There's not a ton to do there, but I stayed at some awesome little inns in South Haven, MI once and had a good time -- I'll try to remember what they were if you want. It was very relaxing. Ann Arbor is awesome as well.

If you go to Illinois, you'd have to just go to Chicago, which wouldn't really be worth it for one night.

You could go to Windsor. There's a casino and you can all drink if there are members of your party under 21. But really other than that, there isn't much to do in (that I know of) in Windsor.

PM I think Frankenmuth might be a good idea. Especially with Christmas right around the corner, you can go to that huge Christmas store - Bronner's I think it's called...

Or what about Cleveland - isn't that the OH city on the river that has tons of bars and stuff? (Or is that Cinncinati?)

It could probably be any city that has a river.

You probably mean Cleveland, though. You could also visit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, or check out some of the cultural offerings there in the afternoon or next morning.

And the river doesn't burn anymore.

Oh, there a lake there, too.

Lol thanks guys! I shoulda prolly mentioned that I'm from 20 minutes south of Detroit so Ann Arbor and Windsor are a weekly thing.

South Haven sounds kinda cool. Never really heard of it so any other info would be great!

And we're not really looking for a bar scene. My friend can't, um, well shouldn't go to bars if you get what I mean.

Thanks for all the suggestions. :)

I'm not sure what you're into, but Shipshewana, Indiana is a fun girls weekend. They have a lot of shopping, hand made Amish products and opportunities to do arts and crafts yourself. They have special Christmas activities this time of year too.

I spent a weekend at Frankenmuth last year and there was a lot more to do than several years ago. They have a new River Place mall that has fun stuff going on and the karaoke at the Bavarian Inn is fun too. They have a laser light show every night. You probably won't be able to get a room at the Bavarian Inn this time of year though.

I know people who've been to South Haven in the summer.. not sure how much there is to do in the fall/winter though.

Wheel's Inn in Sarnia is supposed to be a lot of fun. I've been wanting to go there for a while. Here's a link for that:
Wheel's Inn

That's the best I can think of!

You could go to Kitchener/Waterloo and check out St. Jacobs. That's about a 4 hour drive.

you could go to frankemuth and always go shopping at birch run. that place is always a good time. or else there is traverse city. its only about 4 hours from ann arbor and its also really fun, but im not sure about the winter there. there is a place called the great bear or great wolf lodge thats cool, its a nice hotel thats like a log cabin only HUGE with and indoor water park. we went to the one by cedar point and it was a ton of fun

And this morning, I just thought of... Toronto! There is tons to do there!

I was going to suggest Toronto, but according to Yahoo Maps, it's almost a 5 hour drive...but somehow that doesn't seem right?

It should only be 5 hours when customs is slow. Yahoo probably has issues with kilometers and miles and speed limits or something!

St. Jacobs is a great lil place! But there's more to do in Stratford. The plays are done but the downtown area is very picturesque.

Detroit to Toronto is 4 hours.

Windsor->London is 2 hours (some of the most boring hours mind you!)

London -> Toronto is 2 hours.

The extra hour is because when they do those "time" things they always count to the inside of the city. And you can definately spend over 30 minutes attempting to get on the 401 in Toronto and I'm assuming it's the same for Detroit.
