SORORS I need your help
Greeting Sorors,
I have an issue that has arisen at work and I was just hoping to get some suggestions/advice on how to approach the situation. Being the Neo that I am (I just crossed April 2001) I wear para just about everywhere I go. Even to work (but especially while I'm out doing my public service http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif ). There is this one young lady here in the office who has taken to writing Delta everywhere I turn in her department. The first time I noticed this Delta was scribbled on the margin of a sheet of paper, the following day I returned to her area and she had written in BIG bubble letters on an 11 X 14 sheet of paper the word DELTA (but instead of an 'A' at the end she put the symbol DELTA http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif ). Now when I was just a prospect, I wouldn't THINK Delta to hard in the presence of a Soror (But maybe she just does not know, right? http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif ). But wait there's more, NOW, I go over there and on at least 2 peoples white board she has written Delta (I know it's her because she has also written her name on these white boards - on one in particular it actually says HERNAME a.k.a DELTA) and I am becoming.. NO.. I AM disturbed. I have been working with this young lady for almost a year and at no time before I pledge and began wearing my para did she write any such thing on anything. She has also since colored in (where would she find the time? I do not know) the 11X14 sheet of paper... Thankfully not in our Sorority colors, but still!!! My dilemma is should I approach her? Should I ask her if she is interested and let her know to ask me questions instead of writing the word Delta all over the place? Ooooooooh Soror,
I don't know what I would do!! I mean not know any better. Some people don't even know what Delta is (at my job, when I wear my para people ask me what it means all the time. I mean, they don't know what sororities are!). First of all, I would ask her if she was in school. Then ask her why she scribbles Delta all the time. Then, explain to her that you are a Delta, and how that is disrespectful to you. If she had no idea what Delta was in the first place, go into full detail of our sorority and why you are so protective of your letters. However, I feel that it is important that you keep your cool. I will e-mail you privately.

That happens a lot when people find you're in an organization. They make remarks or do things that are kind of ignorant...but, they generally mean no harm. I know a soror said she will email you privately. But, I wanted to add my 2 cents. If this young lady is NOT a Delta, I would approach her in a polite fashion. Just ask her why she's writing Delta everywhere. If she does not know any better, explain to her that it makes you uncomfortable and is borderline disrespectful to both you and your organization.
Hmm, I wonder how much 'nalia you're wearing, soror. Has it gotten to a point where folks are saying: "Okay, we get the point you're a Delta...and you're a neo!! Give it a rest!!" I'm playing around...life is good http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif |
