Having a kid at AGE TEN??????????????

Why are we seeing a lower birthrate among the 10-14 year olds?

When I think about those reasons, I came up with this:

I think we are seeing a lower birth rate in the US among the 10 to 14 year olds because it has become socially unacceptable to marry off any young woman. That a 10 year old may know some things about sex, but may not actually commit the sexual intercourse... I dunno... But long time ago, 10 year olds were getting married off left and right... When pedophilia was legal...

That's what I wanted to ask too. I knew that people used to marry off 13 year olds, but I didn't know that they married 10 year olds. Usually, they wait until girls ummm..."became women"..

Girls are starting their periods, now, at 8 and 9. So, it would be all the more reason to "marry them off."

let's see... stats from 2002... so Bush was in office for only a year, of which 9 months of that these girls were pregnant... doubtful he had pushed his God-fearing Abstinence program very much... so Bush inherited falling pregnancy rates...

Yay! The Clinton Administration's Condom Education lowered the pregnancy rate!

Unless I've misinterpreted your post, I was actually referring to families in the past.

No, no! :) I knew what you were saying. I probably should have added an . I was responding to the families of the past who would give up their young daughters like that. It's just ridiculous!

By the way, in response to the topic, I truly believe it has a lot to do with the change from Gen X to Gen Y. Children, as a whole, feel a lot more personal responsibility - and the stress attached to it - than did children in the past.

Here's my theory:

This age group are children of the "hippies" of the 70's who believed in free love. The only way to rebel against your hippie parents is to abstain.

So now you're going to come up here and claim to be an expert on getting women pregnant?

nope- just using the same logic that everyone that says "Bush inherited the bad economy from Clinton" use

He wasnt long enough in office for such drastic results on his Abstinence Only program.

My cousin's husband is a doctor. When he worked in the hospital emergency room, one of his patients was a pregnant eleven year old. The pregnancy was probably the result of an incestuous relationship and considered statutory rape under the laws of New York. He wasn't sure what happened to the girl because it was out of his hands and in the hands of the social workers. I was shocked since I had never heard of a pregnant eleven year old. He said that many of his patients were pre-teens and young teens who were pregnant and didn't know it. They all thought that they had stomach problems. It was very sad.
