Tri-State ADPi's!

We've been chatting about possibly holding combined Jewel Degrees, so I mentioned it to a few local Alumnae - and they liked the idea! It would involve SUPER planning with the various schedules, however.

So...
Which chapters do you think might be interested? (We were thinking of Pitt, Allegheny, & Penn State in PA, WV Wesleyan, and, other than Akron & maybe Mt. Union, weren't sure about OH.)

Does anyone have the academic calendars for these chapters?

Does anyone have a rough social calendar for these chapters?

How many seniors would each of the interested chapters have?

Are there any alumnae in the area who would be interested in helping with one or more Jewel Degree?

Any other factors that you can think of?

PS - no promises!! This is strictly in the talking stage right now!

Honey PM me your email address and I will forward these questions to HB's chapter president.

I can tell you right now that Allegheny's graduation is always on Mother's Day so classes end about a week before that. Of course seniors stick around the week following finals for Senior Week and Graduation.

We have about 15 seniors graduating this year that would need to go through jewel degree.

As far as alumnae go, there are a lot of HB alumn in the pittsburgh area who I could get in touch with if you need help.

The only thing I can think of we need to find a centralized location that is about the same distance for everyone and probably no more than 1.5 hrs away.

I cant totally speak for Akron, but I really think it would be a great idea. I know we dont always have huge attendance and it would be nice for the girls to meet other ADPis and other ADPI alums. I know Id totally be interested and Im sure if you decided you really wanted to do that, we could pass the info on to the alum president and the alum chair. I do think it would be a great event. Keep me updated if you decide to go through with it. I know from the turnpike we arent far from PA.

As far as graduating senios in the spring, we usually get between 15-30. It ranges each year. I think this year its like 20 some. They usually do jewel degree in May right when school is out or a week before.

I'll admit to a motive for this! We usually do Jewel Degree for Pitt in April, and this year, up to thirty-nine will be graduating! I'm thinking that we could possibly get enough alumnae to do JD right, but we may have to have two different dates.

So, once we get a better idea of dates & the number of seniors - to say nothing of the number of alumnae who can help out! - then we'll be able to plan better. Last year's date was changed, and it was just a mess!

I may post something on PO about this, and see what others think about it...

Just a thought, I dont know what district the Ohio schools are in but PA and WV are both in D3. Perhaps get in touch with the Alumnae Relations IO for the district? She would probably be able to help get in touch with the schools and alumn.

I think we have already planned to fit Jewel Degree into Founder's Day. Sorry!! The room is already booked for an earlier time so we can complete the degree before the brunch begins. I wish I would have known earlier and I would have checked it out!!

Are we talking May 15th? MAYBE if my idea doesn't work, we can at least have a list to give to each local chapter, along with a contact person. That way, if someone can't make JD for one date, maybe they could go through it with another chapter.

Would anyone have any trouble with this?

HB - the Alumnae Relations IO for our District is already on board. We feel that the idea is to see that as many women who are eligible can participate in what I feel is our most beautiful rite!

We are holding our Founder's Day celebration at the end of April before the chapter members leave for the summer. But we welcome anyone and everyone in the area wanting to go through Jewel Degree. If anyone is interested, they would have to let me know ahead of time so I can check and see if they are eligible. :)

Hmmm.... Pitt's schedule is quite similar. Maybe we could plan one JD for Weekend A, and another for Weekend B, both in April, and one for May?

ADPiAkron 11-26-2004 12:15 AM

Well the one in Akron is already planned....I believe the date is April 23rd...but I would have to double check that one....if not it is April 16 or 30.

honeychile 11-26-2004 12:25 AM

I don't want you (or any chapter!) to feel that your JD is being crashed, that's why I opened the idea out for discussion.

Our idea was more of a "These seniors at these schools are paid eligible for Jewel Degree. You may recieve it at Option 1, Option 2, or Option 3. You must RSVP by ____" type of thing.

ADPiAkron 11-26-2004 02:23 PM

No no!! I did not feel like it was being crashed....we welcome everyone like I said....I just wanted to let you know our date is already set!! I wasn't sure if you were aiming for certain dates!! So when I am 100% sure on the date I will let you all know!
