Wu-Tang Clan rapper Ol' Dirty Bastard died on Saturday (November 13) in New York, according to his spokesperson.

Sources close to ODB (whose real name was Russell Jones) said he had been complaining of chest pains earlier in the day.

A statement was released Saturday evening by ODB's mother, Cherry Jones. "This evening I received a phone call that is every mother's worst dream," she said. "My son, Russell Jones, passed away. To the public, he was known as Ol' Dirty Bastard. To me, he was known as Rusty, the kindest and most generous soul on earth. I appreciate all the support I received. Russell was more than a rapper — he was a loving father, brother, uncle and most of all, son. With love, Cherry Jones.

the only things I can think of that would kill someone at age 35 unexpectedly like that, and based on the only symptom given:

-aortic aneurysm
-arrhythmia causing ventricular fibrillation
-cardiac arrest from clogged arteries

My guess is, given his history with drug use, any of the above could have happened.

Exactly what I was thinking (except for the AA). I don't think the ODB would have been very happy with a pacemaker or having an angioplasty.

I love ODB and Wu Tang. I'm very upset by this.

Truth is: Live hard, die hard. He lived in a manner that would, to me, predict an early death....Drugs, indiscriminate sex, crime...Tough lives can be overcome and it seemed he embraced it. It's sad, but it almost seems like an accurate capper for the type of life he lead.
