ASU Chi Omega chapter dedicates fountain

The Omicron Zeta chapter of Chi Omega Fraternity has dedicated a new campus landmark for Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Arkansas. On Saturday, October 16, 2004, active members and alumnae presented a commemorative fountain to Arkansas State University in celebration of their experience at ASU.

The Chi Omega Fraternity fountain is located just west of ASU’s new Student Union, between the International Student Center and the Administration Building. The Omicron Zeta chapter of Chi Omega was founded at ASU in 1961 and to date has initiated 1,227 members.

A commemorative plaque was presented to ASU president Les Wyatt who accepted the fountain on behalf of the university. After a welcome by NPC delegate Candace Martin, the history of the OZ chapter was shared by Kimberly Dale of the national recruitment team. Beth Smith, OZ House Corp. president, formally presented the fountain to Dr. Wyatt, followed by reminiscences by chapter members through the decades. In closing, the Chi Omega sisters formed a circle around the fountain and sang “Shades.”

The dedication plaque carries the six purposes which guide the members of Chi Omega and the fountain features six lights to commemorate these ideals. The Chi Omegas stated: “For the last 43 years, Chi Omegas gave been present and a vital part of the Arkansas State University campus. Over that time, both have enriched our lives and created our memories. Today, representatives of the 1,227 initiated Omicron Zeta alumnae join together in presenting this lovely fountain to our university, Arkansas State University. “
