Ratherisms

Post any stupid comments by Dan Rather.

I just heard:

"Dont talk to the alligator 'til after you cross the creek."

IowaStatePhiPsi 11-02-2004 09:21 PM

"Bush's lead is as thin as November ice"

lifesaver 11-02-2004 10:24 PM

From November 2000...

"Well, I'll be a coon on a red-hot skillet!"

Nikki_DZ 11-03-2004 12:49 AM

"it wont' hurt you to get off your duff and vote"

I *LOVE* Dan.

"If this race gets any closer, call 911, call a doctor, call a nurse...."

(As of 1 minute ago) :D

"if a frog had pockets he'd carry a handgun"

wtf? Rather must be tripping.

GeekyPenguin 11-03-2004 10:36 AM

I watched Brokaw last night. The one highlight was when he said erection instead of election.

Ratherisms are the ONLY reason I tune to CBS News for presidential election coverage

If I am not mistaken, wasn't this line discussed/deliberated on b/t Rather and Bob Scheiffer (sp?) for a good 30 seconds before they moved on to something else?

Thanx to IowaStatePhiPsi for starting this thread.

'Cause both Bob Schieffer and Dan Rather are gen-u-swine native Texicans. :D

A technical comment on last nights network coverage on the three "traditional" networks.

Both CBS and ABC simply "dressed up" their normal news set and added computers, etc.

NBC's "Democracy Plaza," built around the Rockefeller Plaza skating rink was an absolute thing of beauty. As a TV director who worked elections for many years, I could really appreciate the huge amount of planning and work that went into this effort -- not the least of which was the fact that they were originating MSNBC and Telemundo from the same location -- using many of the same people and facilities.

The amount of coordination in planning, construction and lighting was a thing of beauty.

They certainly sent Brokaw out in fine fashion.

The only tiny little problem will be if, by some miracle, Kerry actually takes Ohio. Only NBC gave the state to Bush last night. Gulp! That took some nerve given the Florida problems four years ago.

"...the votes are closer than Lassie and Timmy...." 12:18 am PST

"Until it's official, it isn't official." 12:51am PST (Well, duh :p - but this is my favorite one of the night!)

goldendelta 11-03-2004 12:34 PM

I don't know who said it, it was on NBC.

"Either one candidate will win or the other" No isht Sherlock.

Munchkin03 11-03-2004 03:24 PM

Did anyone hear

"This race is moving along like Ray Charles."

WTF did that mean? The race was blind? The race was dead?

I thought it was especially funny when the commentator wrote "OUTRAGE" and "TRUST" on the screen.

Omigosh!! I would have paid very real money to have heard that!!

My favorite part was when one of the commentators (and I don't remember which one, because I was switching channels all night) said: "Now, the red states? Those ones are for Bush. And the blue ones...are for Kerry." Thanks. I'm glad we cleared that one up.
