Hey ladies! I was just wondering if anyone was going to the convention?

Has anyone on here been before? What is it like?

I know that when I went to my TBS convention, both Nat'l and District levels, it was a lot of fun but also a lot of work. Then again I was the delegate.

But I"ve never been to Washington, D.C so it sounds good to me.

I'm not sure if i'll go or not... it'll be a couple weeks before I have to take the bar exam. I'm tempted to get away for a few days and go, especially b/c DC is very easy driving distance from Pittsburgh.

But it's also very (IMO, ridiculously) expensive. The hotel is never very reasonably priced (this upcoming one is RIGHT before the 4th of July, so I won't be suprised if the rates are high)... and just registering is sometimes nearly $500 (at least for alumnae). Yes that includes meals, but it's still insane. Then while you're there, they have all kinds of things set up to raise money for the Foundation, and you end up dropping even more money.

IMO I wish they'd cut some of the excess frills and make it less expensive to go and then people would spend more to donate to the Foundation. I paid my own way last time, as my AA certainly couldn't afford to help out.

Okay /my hijack on the cost

I've been to the last two, my first was Orlando in 2001 as a chapter visitor, my second at Tucson in 2003 as my AA delegate.

It is a fabulous time, a great way to meet other sisters, and just a blast.

UKDaisy, you may want to join the KD yahoogroup, http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Kappa_Delta/ it's a great resource for KD information, and you'd be able to look through the archives at all of our conversations about conventions past, as well as see lots of pictures! The groupers always try to meet up at convention.... they're great ladies!

If you have a Triple A membership, you can sometimes get better deals at the hotel than the sorority has...that's what we did for the ASA convention. AAA happened to be running a special for our hotel at the same time.

I am going to try to make it to convention. I really hope I can go as one of my chapter's delegates, but it is pretty far away from deciding that. If i don't get selected, I am going to try to save for the hotel and whatnot. I live close enough to DC so travel expenses won't be too bad, but the overall package is pretty pricy for a college student.

I've been to 2 conventions: 1999 & 2001. Had a blast @ both! :)

Don't think I'll go to 2005...I have my 20 year high school reunion.
