Visiting Macon, GA

As I've talked about before, I'm from a town right down the road from Macon and have visited all of the exciting founders spots several times. I read a thread on the Phi Mu board and am now curious...

How many of you have actually been to Wesleyan to see the fountain, to The Cannonball House to see the room there, or Rose Hill Cemetary to see Eugenia's grave?

I have! Not to sound dorky, but it's a life-changing experience (at least it was for me). I loved it!

I haven't, but I'm gonna go. Anybody want to?

I have several times. Once with some of my aunts who are ADPis and a few other times with some sisters from my chapter and some other chapters. I also lived in NC when I was little and we went there a few times before I was an ADPi. Awesome place, emotional and great thing for every ADPi to go to.

Id still love to go again and again with more sisters. :)

I have, I have! :p I go to Mercer University in Macon, and we are really lucky to have ADPi history and monuments all around us. I am the New Member Coordinator for our chapter, and I know that our Alphas (well, New Deltas since they've been initiated already :) ) were excited to get the chance to visit Eugenia's grave at Rose Hill and to see the ADPi fountain at Wesleyan. We usually go to the parlor room in the Cannonball House at some point during the year as well. The current Macon post office building is the site of the original Wesleyan, and it's just down the street from campus. The Phi Mu chapter here and us ADPi's go to Wesleyan in the spring for "Peaches and Pie", an alum gathering. Anyway, just wanted to share...
(On a side note, I'm in a black & white photography class and went around town taking an "ADPi" roll of film...I began developing them today and am excited that they look like there are some great shots!!!)

Ohh, Ohh! Are you from there? I know several girls from your chapter. I'm either friends with them or know their names b/c we had mutual friends! I'm from Warner Robins, btw...

Visited Macon

I went to an elementary school near Macon in the early 1980's and as a field trip visited the Cannon Ball house. I did not know then the significance it would have in my life now! Also, I attended the 150th Anniversary Convention on went on the trip to see the Cannon Ball house, fountain, and cemetery.

I lived in Warner Robins for a few years, back in the early 1980's. I attended Shirley Hills Elementary. What part are you from?

hunnie843 10-26-2004 01:50 PM

I went to Centerville Elementary, Tabor Middle School, and Northside High School. I graduated HS in 2000 so we might have some mutual friends.

I'm guessing you're a Military Brat?! (Very common there, as you know!)

Macon

Actually, my Mom worked at a company there (Union Switch & Signal) for a while and then transferred to a branch in South Carolina, which is where I lived from 4th grade through college. I don't rember many friends names, but I wouldn't be surprised if we knew some of the same people.

Ah, it was nice to reminisce about Georgia for a few moments. I enjoyed living there.

I visited Macon and the Canonball House, while another sister & I had job interviews in Atlanta. I told the story here (for the most part, anyhow! ;) ). It's near the bottom of the page.

One of my chapter sisters went to visit all those a year or so ago, and she brought back a ton of pictures! It was pretty neat to see all those.... but I bet it is even neater to see it in real life!

Mercer alum

I am an alum from the Beta Sigma chapter at Mercer Univ in Macon and I can honestly say there is nothing like being and ADPi in Macon. There is so much history and we incorporated it all into our pledge education and initiation week activities. It was wonderful! I encourage all sisters to visit at least once. I promise you will be glad you did....and I bet if you stop by Beta Sigma, someone will be happy to show you around Macon!!

For Spring Break last year, I went to Atlanta with my two best friends (one of them lives there) for a cheap break from school.

We visited EO and Wesleyan (I had also stopped at Wesleyan with the same girls on the way to South Beach the previous year).

We also drove to Macon for a day, where we visited the Cannonball House and Eugenia's grave. We left violets on her grave and held our own little (ahem) "ceremony" around her grave. It's one of my best memories as an ADPi!

Me, too!! But it's probably a different town down a different road...:D

And no, I have not been, shame on me.

Diamondgal, do yall have a pretty good alumnae group working with your chapter when you need them? Also, PLEASE post your pictures or a link. We'd all love to see them!!
