OMAHA, Neb. -- President George W. Bush will visit Council Bluffs on Monday, but many people are being told they're not welcome.

Two high school seniors wanted a chance to see Bush in person. They can't vote, but waited in line for more than four hours to get tickets.

"They said, 'If you could register, would you register Republican?'" said Allison Brown, 17, and a high school senior, recounting her experience when she got to the front of the line. "I said I'd register Democrat. 'Would you vote for Bush?' I'm undecided. 'I can't give you tickets.'"

Brown said the message from Republicans doesn't make sense to her.

"Wouldn't he want undecided voters there to sway them? They said that's what TV and debates are for," Brown said.

Brown's friend -- Allison Plummer -- is undecided, too. She told the Bush supporters that she would vote for the president if she could. Plummer got tickets, but not for long. The supporters noticed a Kerry-Edwards bumper sticker on her parent's car.

"She came up to my window and demanded the tickets back," Plummer said.

Republicans say Monday's event is not an official White House visit and is not supported by tax dollars.

"This is a rally around the election, reaching out to Republicans and to people who support the president, to encourage them to get out and vote," said Nebraska Republican Chair David Kramer. "There have be other opportunities. The president was here 1 1/2 years ago, and there were thousands of tickets for that event and no questions asked. If you wanted to go, you could get a ticket."

Another concern is that non-supporters might heckle or try to distract the president. Plummer and Brown said they just wanted to see Bush.

Local Democrats said John Kerry visits are open to the public, and when Sen. John Edwards came to Council Bluffs last week, there were no restrictions on who could attend the rally.

Was this the one from Greeley? I took my two sons there - it was an absolute blast. First time in 70 years a sitting President has been here.

I was AT the rally in Jacksonville on Saturday. The TV news said that the number was 53,000. It was a GREAT turnout, and the President was "on". The crowd loved him, and the energy was tremendous.

I'm glad you found it fu**ing hilarious.

I guess I directed pool coverage of so many Presidential visits, elections rallys, etc. that when I hear a candidate is coming, I run the other way.

I understand the excitement, but after a while I guess they all seem a lot alike.

As a sidebar, remember the huge outdoor election rally featured in the movie where Clint Eastwood is a againg Secret Service Agent? That was an actual Clinton rally in Denver Civic Center Park and I directed the TV pool feed for it.
