What ever happened.....
What ever happened into looking into the three organizations that have the Sigma Alpha name? I know that the one in Texas is still organized and using the name. When I lived in Texas it was a little up setting when someone from that college would come up to me because they see the SA letters and assumes you are from the same organization. That is just not right….
So, can anyone tell me what has happened and/or what was decided about this? Heather |
I found one of them at http://www.heartspring.org/sigma/ it says they started in 1913...I'm guessing National Board, with a lawyer, has to take care of the copyright issue.

I was told that one will not be looked at because of when this service organization started. Are Sigma Alpha was not around at the time and the copyright did not start until after we where formed. But then they never did or ever will have the copyright of the name.
All I know is that would be a sticky situation if ever pursued. (honestly...I dont think that one is a big deal...from what I have read the chapters are not located at colleges...to me it is looked at as a social club that most big cities have. There are only chapters in less then 10 states) |
Oh well....
Well I was informed that while the other organizations use the words Sigma Alpha....We have the copyright on "Sigma Alpha Sorority". So, technically they are not doing anything wrong.
All I have to say. If anyone comes up to us and thinks we are apart of the other impersonators...we need to set them straight :D |
