Odd Business Names

We were driving home from my grandparents this weekend, stop for gas, as I pulled in I looked at the sign---- the gas stations name was the "Kum and Go". We both found the name rather amusing---- I would never spell "come" as "kum" for a business name, it is just to close.....

here's a picture of the sign-- i kept waiting to see some slogan to go along with the name---

Most of them have been Asian names.

FOOK YUEN (Gourmet Hong Kong Cuisine) is actually a nice Chinese Restaurant...five star, in fact.

There's also a FUKUYA (Fcuk-you-ya) Okazu-ya joint that I go to every other morning for breakfast.

I used to get freaked out by the ACDC Christian School. Actually, it was an abbreviation for Arlington Child Development Center, but really.....
It didn't help matters that it was on a big-azz sign on a majorly busy street.

There is a chain of Christian book stores in South Africa call Cum. Everytime I passed it, I giggle like a school girl.

ETA: Found their website: www.cum.co.za

They originated in Iowa so I'm just used to seeing them and don't think about the name. The Krouse Gentle Corporation owns the stores, so I'm guessing when they first opened over 40 years ago, they used a name that tied in with the first initials of the two last names (Krouse and Gentle/Kum and Go) without realizing what connotations future generations may assign with the name. The Krause family are HUGE alumni of the U of Iowa and have donated a lot to the University. Most recently, a $5 million donation to help renovations on Kinnick Stadium. CEO W.A. Krause is a SAE, one of his sons is Delt and his daughter is a Theta. They all have been very successful in their various business endeavors.

Their slogan used to be "Keeping you on the Go" and now it's "We Go All Out."

In Long Beach there's a Thai food restaurant called Phuket Thai.

I'm sure you can guess why people giggle when they see the sign.

The restaurant understands the "humor" of it and has t-shirts which read: Say it, POO-KET. Don't ask me why.

(Phuket apparently is an island off the coast of Thailand)

Driving back from Ames after a Colorado/Iowa State football game a friend and I ran across "Guy Flatt's Tire" store in Des Moines. Then, here in Denver there's "D.U.M.P." which is Denver Used Motorcycle Parts.
