Would you want to know?

Hey everyone!

I saw this question on Collegeclub.com's site and it was a poll asking the following question:

"If you were able to find out the exact date and time of when you were going to die, would you want to know?"

At first, I thought yes because I'm the type of person who likes to have things planned and organized. Plus, you would be able spend time with family. But then I read some of the responses posted and I saw some good points such as, people would also try to do bad things, like the break the law, and it invades the privacy of God.

Would you want to know? Why or why not?

This is indeed a good question. For selfsih reasons, yes I would want to know. Primarily, so I can be assured that I tell everyone goodbye and let my loved ones know just how much they meant to me.

On the other hand, no, because since I did not have a chance to prepare for my robbery or my father's death, why should I be privy to this event as well. I trust that when it is my time, everyone will know well before then that they mattered in my life.

I wouldn't want to know simply because of the fact that I would not live my life for 'today' but in preparation for death. Essentially, we all know that we are born to die; however, if I knew the exact date I really don't think I'd enjoy my life to it's fullest.

I would not want to know. I think that I would walk around in a funk from that point on. I agree with jazbri in that I don't think that I wouldlive my life to the fullest from that point on.

I am with you, kim! I would become so depressed and sullen, especially if it was a long ways away. Let me LIVE!!

NO WAY!!!!!!

I would not want to know. I agree with everyone else. I would be EXTREMELY depressed. And I don't want to think about how I would be the day before my death day.

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!! Why? Because, speaking personally, I am continually in the process of improving my relationship with the Master. And, in all honesty, I know that there are some things that I need to have straight with Him BEFORE I die. In other words, I believe that if anyone knew when they were going to die there would be a lack of true and sincere GODLY REPENTENCE. Rather there would be repentence based on the fact that they knew that they were going to die soon. I want my HEART to be right. I believe that one would be more focused on the issue of death rather than what REALLY counts-----GETTING YOUR HOUSE IN ORDER. I hope that someone understands where I'm coming from.

This question made me think back 3 yrs. ago when my mother was diagnosed with lung cancer and was given less than 6 months to live. The worse part was actually "watching" her die than her actual death (if that makes sense).

So, my answer would be NO.

I would have to say no because finding out when I die would also mean finding out whether or not I have accomplished somethings that I wanted to do in my life. In a way that is playing God and I feel everything is in place for a reason, not to try to alter history. Besides, life would not be fun if I didn't have my hills to climb in the first place :-).

Be ye also ready...

I once heard a quote, "On your healthiest day, you're sick enough to die."

I found it to be very profound.

MeezDiscreet 03-28-2001 04:00 AM

if i knew the exact date of my death, one of two things would probably happen.
(1)i would be extremely depressed
--"hey MeezDiscreet, how you doing"
---"who cares, i'm dying in 3 days anyway..."

or...
(2) i would probably do a lot of things i always wished i could/would and didn't
--"hey MeezDiscreet, why did you curse your boss, slap your roommate, and eat all that fried chicken and chocolate?"
---"who cares, i'm dying in 3 days anyway!"

I hope life isn't a big joke, because I don't get it.

Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean ? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind

Two Sundays ago, a class mate and dear friend of mind was killed in a motorcycle accident, of course I still have questions but there's no need in asking. I said all of that to say this, If he had of known that two Sundays prior to his 25th birthday he would be killed in an accident, would he'd got on the bike anyways..... who knows. If I knew the excat time I will die, I would probably be too busy concentrating on " No man knows the day nor the hour the Son of man shall appear.....

Work while it is yet day.......

I totally agree...it would be an awful thing to live in preparation for death instead of living for today. If I knew the exact date my mind would be preoccupied with death instead of life, which in essence would be a form of death, so I might as well be dead already if I am going to fixate on it. I say no...I wouldn't want to know.
