Bursar
I am having a hard time understanding most of the reports for this position. Like, every month I am supposed to put the most recent statement listed on one of the reports, but they are always three weeks apart from the statement and the time the report is due, that all the missing information reguarding the recent transactions is not on there. I am getting frustrated with the position, any pointers? And our advisor is never around to help us...

PhiSigStrawbery,
Hopefully I can help you out. I was the bursar while I was active in my chapter, and I am currently the chapter finance advisor for a local chapter of Phi Sigma Sigma. You mention that you are supposed to list the most recent bank statement total on one of the reports. Are you talking about the Chapter Finance Committee (CFC) Report? If so, there are places for you to list "checks written and not cleared " and "deposits made, but not listed." If you aren't talking about the CFC report, I do not know what you are referring to. Most of the monthly bursar reports should be fairly simple to complete if you maintain good records since Excel completes most of the work for you. Does your chapter have a finance advisor? She should be able to help you if you run into problems. If not, you can always contact your Regional Finance Coordinator. If you need help determining who your RFC is, let me know what region you are in and I will look it up for you. Please feel free to email me or PM me if you have more questions or need extra help. I'll try my best to help you. Phi Sig Love, Jadey |
thanks, that is the form, and we don't really have help, our advisor is never around and it's hard to contact the others...i get frustrated, and yea, the page where i add in what has not been cleared and such, it's like more than half the month worth...that's a lot to retype, don't you think?

In reference to this statement, you should just be able to cut and paste the basic info from the receipts/debits page. I don't think you will be able to do anything else about the time frame difference between the report due date and the bank statement. Being bursar is very frustrating, but you will learn a lot. When I was bursar, I had to catch up on two years worth of reports and records. That was incredibly frustrating, but in the end when I had completed everything, I felt so wonderful. Plus I knew that when I graduated, the chapter would be in good financial standing, unlike when I joined. Again, feel free to contact me if you need more help. I can probably get ahold of you RFC if you need serious help and no one can help you. Jadey |
thanks, if you don't mind, I might contact you sometime. :-P

feel free to email your RFC too. I know my RFC is awesome and will call her bursars to walk them through the reports if necessary - and since she lives in town, she actually will meet in person with our bursar who's had a heck of a time.
