Political strawman question of the week
Why aren't groups that support a ban on gay marriage also trying to ban divorce?
The high rate of divorce in the USA is certainly the leading cause of damage to the traditional family. Yet, groups that consider themselves to be pro-family and pro-marriage appear to be concentrating their efforts on trying to ban gay marriage. Why aren't these same groups working to enact a ban on divorce? |
They are trying to make it harder to get divorced. There is a bill that requires counseling/classes on the effects of divorce on the children in the family and other measures to encourage marriage. The conservatives are shoving marriage down people's throats, just not if they're gay.
Personally, I think they should make it much harder to get married and much easier to get divorced. It is interesting how they discuss the effects of divorce on children, but they don't mention that these children lived in an angry, tense and sometimes abusive environment prior to the divorce. They don't seem to think that living in those situations affects the kids? Dee |
I think you should have to pass a test before having children.

Further possible questions: Why don't the pro-choice abortionists also think school choice is good? Why aren't legal immigrants from Somalia, etc., considered African-Americans? Why is free trade good for everybody except Cubans? Why are those seeking more benefits and entitlements for poor people against school vouchers? |
another strawman
Why don't those who protest same-sex marriage on religious grounds also protest all non-Christan religions? After all, heathens are living a sinful lifestyle too.

Oh Canada
"We peer so suspiciously at each other that we cannot see that we Canadians are standing on the mountaintop of human wealth, freedom and privilege."
-- Pierre Elliott Trudeau Unfortunately, it's all buried under six feet of snow, which is tramped solid by citizens waiting in line for health care. Just joking - I was in Toronto for the Maple Leafs playoffs last spring. |
Why do "pro-life" people support the death penalty?
Why do American "liberals" oppose liberal markets? |
Why do we drive on a parkway and park on a driveway?
If 7-11 is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, why is there a lock on the door? Much in life makes no sense... |
