Atlantic City
While I would much rather go to Vegas cuz it's funner, work and personal obligations are preventing me from doing that, so me and 3 of my alumnae sisters from New Paltz are planning to go to Atlantic City for the first weekend of November. I have been here for day trips but besides gambling, what else is there really to do, especially for a weekend? I am pretty broke with my car and school loans so anyone have any ideas that don't cost tons of cash? We are planning pretty much at this point to just hang out, "gossip" LOL, drink, relax and hit one of the clubs in the Taj. Since there doesn't seem to be too much more to do there besides that we may just make it a Sat-Sun thing and go out in Manhattan Friday nite. I am guessing that shows and concerts are probably pretty pricey too. Just curious :)

Haven't been to ACY in years (ACY - airport code for Atlantic City), so my information is rather outta date.
Boardwalk's a decent walk, though I dunno about the beaches - this time o' year it's probably cold. Avoid going off the beaten path away from the Boardwalk - there's still some areas that are pretty seedy in Atlantic City. Unlike Vegas, where almost everything is somewhat subsidized by gaming, ACY isn't as much, and show tickets can be pricey. If you wanna gamble, table game limits are high on weekends (though what's nice is the NJ Casino Control Commission (NJCCC) rule that requires all table games to post a notice ahead of time when table minimums increase). Lotsa tourists playing the slots and video poker, so it's gonna be crowded as all get-out. |
Tun Tavern
Irish Pub Dizzy Dolphin (although its a bit cold for that) Casbah Fire Water Martini Bar I'm fried right now...can't think of much else. When I get my brain back tomorrow, I'll think more. |

They charge women to get into their clubs...who does that? Its very expensive, and they con you into spending more money in their slots because you have to change your money into their tokens first. And who wants to go through the hassle to turn it back into money. Its out in the middle of nowhere, and costs at least $20 to take a cab back to the rest of the island. |

The Borg: -has one of the top four poker rooms on the planet (right after the bellagio and foxwoods, and maybe even with the bike) -spreads the best selection of poker games, and has surreal fish/cash ratios -has the best comp i've ever heard of -will pay for your shuttle if you play for 5 hours -fuck the nightclub, yo, i'm just throwing knaves my post was purely sarcastic, but since i'd only be in AC for poker, the borg would be the obvious choice. unless you want to smell balls at trump all night . . . |
Well we wouldn't go to the Borgata anyways because it is in the middle of no where and we aren't going to gamble. I am broke, my sister just recently finished med school and is broke, the other is in grad school and the other is not working. As I said we are looking to have fun without spending a lot of cash, or throwing away a lot of cash IMO. So I think like DolphinChica suggested we'll stick to the clubs and just hang out with each other which is the whole point anyways :D

If there was anywhere else closer (well within driving distance) to NYC that was fun, we would gladly go but because of lack of places, AC is gonna be it. Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods are all elderly people so that's why we opted for AC too, at least there are clubs in AC. Next year we will have to plan our get-together in the summertime so we can hang out at the beach or something like that........

First weekend in November is the NJ Teachers' Convention in AC. It's probably going to be really crowded down there, from what I've heard from previous years. Just thought I'd warn you...

wellllll, it feels like that sometimes, but... ha yeah, every teacher in the state is invited to this, so if you already have a hotel room, you should be set! you're lucky you got one! |

I'm going there for New Years. I'm not saying to gamble there, I'm saying keep in mind that the place in a big carrot dangling in front of the tri-state's male population. And remember that it was a guy on this thread who put the name in huge type in bold type. Just saying... |
