Has a close sister ever stopped speaking to you?
Yesterday I was hanging out with 3 other alumnae and we got to talking about particular sisters in our lives who we were extremely close to during undergrad, or even as alumnae who have stopped talking to us for no apparent reason. It seems like a phenomenon everyone goes through in life in general. I have had sisters I was close with who I grew completely apart from for one reason or another, but the ones you were superclose to who just stop talking to you are especially disappointing. I had this happen recently and it's just really sad. I guess what made me think about this is I ran into an alum from my chapter a couple weeks ago and she told me how she is going to the wedding of one of my pledge sisters. I feel bad because my pledge sister and I used to be inseperable and now I never hear from her anymore. I tried reaching out to her awhile ago but nothing really came out of it. There's another one who was my surrogate little who we don't really speak anymore either and I was her maid of honor. I just think it's sad how we grow apart. Can anyone else relate?

Sure can relate!!!
My best friend and I from junior high coincidentally became AXO's from two different chapters...we were inseperable....now? We don't speak at all...even worse, she lives less than 5 miles from me... We've tried to reconnect off and on throughout the years, but I guess even that got too strained...it's weird and there are times when I miss her something awful, but she's got her life and I have mine...unfortunately, the lives aren't connecting anymore!! |
Had that happen to me as well. We had a girl transfer to our chapter, and we hit it off right away, I even adopted her as my lil' and her lils are still in my family. Anyway we used to hang out all the time, now she doesn't call anymore. I tried calling her a few times and we'll talk but she doesn't seem to want to make an effort to hang out anymore or keep in touch. I haven't even seen her at all now that I'm alum and she went early alum since this is her last semester. It does make me sad becuase it's not like we had a falling out or anything... and I'm generally VERY good at keeping friends long term (I still have several friends from Kindergarten and Jr. high) Oh well I guess in the end it's their loss for those who choose not to be in your company.

It's hard with the one especially who was my pledge sister. I know why the other one and I don't really speak and it was a mutual decision more or less and I am actually fine with it. The pledge sister one though, she lives in the area, and I know hangs out with people like, blocks away from me. I have a theory as to why she may not talk to me anymore but I just don't know which is the hard part. Like was said by one of you, it's not like I did anything to her, we just stopped talking.

My big and I were pretty close during my freshman/sophomore years, then we kind of grew apart. We haven't been in touch since she graduated. :(
One of my pledge sisters was a bridesmaid in my wedding. I haven't heard from her in a couple of years... she just dropped off the face of the planet. On the other hand, there are a few sisters to whom I wasn't really close during my freshman/sophomore years, who are now among my best friends. People change. |
