CBC's Greatest Canadians

Anyone else (well Canadians) catch the begining of the Greatest Canadian on CBC? I find it facinating which people made the list... from such a broad spectrum of society and history.

Here a link to it... although they aren't listed by precedence on the website

I caught the last 15 on the list. I think I agree with their choices for the top ten.
I can't wait till they do the shows on the individual finalists. Although, I think I'm voting for Frederick Banting. With out him (and of course his colleagues) I wouldn't be alive today.

I vote for kids in the hall

I just finished watching tonight's show about Tommy Douglas.

Now, I'm feeling kind of torn. I'm not sure who I should vote for. Without Banting I wouldn't be alive today, but without Douglas I couldn't AFFORD to be alive today.

i think I will save my vote until the very end, when I've seen all the shows about the candidates.

Terry Fox has my vote, Pearson is a close second.

I caught the list on Newsworld last night - I question some of the choices, i.e. Avril Lavigne

I think the concept of this show is stupid.
I think the top ten list is mostly stupid. (Wayne Gretsky?? Don Cherry)

I guess it depends on your definition of "greatness"... but I won't be caught watching that show for my life.

Well remember that these people were picked by the average Canadian... so some "popular" choices were bound to slip in.

What I find more interesting however is the "non-popular" individuals that made the top 100 list...

#34 is a DJ from Power97 in Winnipeg that challenge listeners to vote for him - once they took out the multiple votes, it was like over 100,000 votes! I didn't realize 100,000 people listened to that station - and I even lived there!

Barenaked Ladies, if you can count them as on entity and not 5 individuals. :D

Tommy Douglas has my vote. Before watching the show, the only thing I really knew about him was that he was Keifer Sutherland's grandfather. After the show... well, let's just say that I fully understand that a person doesn't need to be Prime Minister (or President) to be powerful and influential.

You know they left one great Canadian off that list - ME!

... Just kidding:p

There are no women on the top ten list. Why is it that Don Cherry is on the list, but not, say Agnes MacPhail?

Because it's a popular vote contest...not an accomplishment contest. I think it's interesting to see who the Canadian people have voted for. It's all in good fun and not to be taken seriously.

P.S are they doing those specials on the top ten every night or just monday nights?

bcdphie 10-23-2004 04:09 PM

I think they are on monday and wednesday.
