1 in 100 adults asexual

akkk!
Do they survey 12-year-olds?

This isn't too far fetched, IMO. I didn't have ANY interest in sex until I was almost 20. (Sorry if that was TMI)
|
I can't say that I have zero interest in sex, but I could definitely live without it. From people I've talked to, asexuality is actually pretty common (well, more common than a lot of people think) -- it's just that people who feel that way don't admit it because they feel like it's sooo weird.
I think this whole asexual pride thing would be a little over the top, though . . . |
Asexuality: The last hope of gay men who are too afraid to come out.

I'm sorry, I'm lost...
Is the article discussing those who have no interest in sex with anyone?
OR These folks want to have sex but only with themselves... Or with plastic encoded inanimate objects that require batteries... I guess my question is, what is the difference between celebacy and asexuality? Because asexual reproduction is the field of biology is about 1)a unicellular eukaryote that separates by fission... or 2)a multicellular eukaryotic metazoan that has two fully functional sexual organs--a hermaphrodite--and they can go f themselves--essentially--like C. elegans and some snails... No human has the capability to do that, yet--without full genetic reconstruction and modification... But, I tell yah, I wouldn't want to be doing anything remotely related to that kind of research... |

that is an excellent point |
I've heard of this before, called nonsexuality before. From my understanding, its a matter of attraction. you can be celibate and still feel attraction.

I wodner how many would cross index for depression or anxiety.

Although not really something I hold true myself, I know a few people who are basically "nonsexual" or "asexual" if you want to use that term. My best friend is pretty nonsexual; she just has a really low, inactive libido she says. Stats: she's had sex (i.e. intercourse) with 2 people, started having sex at 21 (she's now 25), has had other sexual relations but very limited, and it's been almost 3 years since her last sexual encounter. She's just not into it. You may think she's

Another of my male friends is 24, straight, very attractive, intelligent, etc. He has no known interest in sex either. Our mutual friends know that he has had sexual encounters (with women only), but we believe he's just afraid of turning out like his brothers and sisters (all of whom have illegitimate children and dysfunctional relationships; all of whom had a lot of sexual experiences from ages 15-20). I think some people really aren't all about sex. More power to them... |
Asexual...hmm...Boring people that have been opressed...
|
I acutally know someone who is "asexual"...and it's not that he's just not interested in sex...he actually fears women and his own "member"...has a seperate towel and washcloth for it. One of my friends wanted to date him and he replied that it was flattering, but he just wasn't interested. (And there's no way he's gay either)

wow, i think i'd kill myself if i was that uptight...
