School Vs Work
I think I told all of you (if not all, then most) that I got re-accepted back to Ball State. Now, I really want to go back to school, and I need to, but I'm torn about what to do with my school situation. If I keep my current job and transfer down there, I'll have to drive almost 30 minutes to work (that sucks and my car is a gas hound). I could also look for a job elsewhere and hope for the best.
Pros - I keep my seniority (what little I have), I keep my certifications, I keep my vacation time, I keep my job, I keep my paycheck. Cons - I keep making what I'm making now (yeah, it's a con too), I have to drive farther than I'd like, it'd only be part time while being in school full time (worthwhile??). I don't know what to do. Working on campus isn't an option. What do you think you would do? |
I'd do what I'm still doing. Drive the distance b/c I do not want to lose my seniority or my awesome benefits that have taken years to accrue. However, you have to do what's best for you.

What is your current job? Is it like a office type thing? I would keep the job... but I think I would also try for a raise maybe. At one point I was driving an hour to work because I had to move home with my parents and didn't want to lose my job. I work at a school and it was almost the end of the year and I wanted to come back this fall. So I commuted for an hour both ways. It was only for 2 weeks though.
Is the 30 minute commute factoring living right by school? You could always try to live more in the middle of work and school and commute 15 minutes to both or something like that. 30 minutes isn't as bad as it sounds once you start doing it. I lived 30 minutes from school for about 4 months and actually enjoyed the time alone in my car. I dunno... these are just my thoughts... |
