Dog/Animal Costumes

In my line of work, I have to visit nursing or personal care homes at least twice a week, sometimes more often. Besides making nice with my clients, I need to keep the door open with each of the homes involved.

I don't even participate in Halloween, but the one home is having a "Pet Parade" the week prior. They have seen pictures of our Buffy, and I've been told that his presence is expected. Well, goodie for them, since he "marks" every single place he visits! But this means that I have to come up with a costume that
a) he'll wear and
b) he won't be humiliated wearing.

Buffy (a Bichon Frise) doesn't mind wearing a loose sweater or whatever when it's really cold, but I'm not so sure he's going to be happy about this...

Any suggestions?

Check out the last post in this thread..
What kind of pet(s) do you have?

I just posted a link and pic of doggies dressed up for Halloween. I will warn you that some of these costumes IMO go beyond your basic sweater and hat.

Oh, Honeykiss, those are adorable - but I don't think they'll translate well to a small, fluffy type dog. So far, I'm thinking about a cowboy hat...?

how well can he hang with hats....
some dogs can hang... some not.

The hats that have the little elastic loops for his ears to go through work well. The hats with the string underneath his chin lasts about a nano-second.

He does have one sweater that's white with black spots. I call it his "Dalmation Look", but he looks so embarrassed in it. (Yeah, like he'll just love a cowboy hat...! )

Oh man, I thought this was going to be a thread about furries. Thankfully, it is not.

Unfortunately, my knowledge is limited, as you may have guessed, to cat costumes.

I bought a very cute king costume at Target for Barney to wear the first Halloween after I got him. All the kids who came to my house got a kick out of his costume. Last year he decided he didn't want to wear it so he just wore his candy corn bandana. That's probably what I'm going to do again this year.

Petsmart has a good selection of pet costumes.

I got Darby a pumpkin costume but he hates the head piece. It lasts like a second. I think he is gonna go as his self this year because I don't want to really spend another 20 or 30 bucks but we'll see..........I just ordered him a DPhiE t-shirt so maybe he can go as a sorority girl LOL. j/k.

Since you know he will wear the loose sweater why don't you just decorate the sweater in some way?

I think you can go to websites like www.petco.com or petsmart.com and they might have some "costume" ideas :)

I bet a cow costume would be easy to make from stuff you have a around the house. Not only does your dog get to dress up like a cow but it can live out any fantasies it has about being a Dalmatian.

This is just wrong in so many ways!!

My mother is suggesting an Uncle Sam hat, with a bow tie. Buffy may tolerate that...

I have a pug and my boyfriend would KILL me if I ever did that. It is bad enough I was "talking" about getting him booties for the winter so salt doesn't get in his paws and a sweater/coat. You can guess what Michael said he will look like............

Actually, my vet feels that if you're not going to wash their paws when they come in from a salty sidewalk, they should wear boots.
