ADPi/AOPi recruitment confusion?

My cousin is an AOPi and there isn't an ADPi chapter at her school; there isn't an AOPi chapter where I pledged ADPi. Anyway, we were chatting today and wondered if PNM's at schools where there is both AOPi and ADPi get confused about which is which. Recruitment is already confusing enough as it is-- all these new foreign letters being thrown at you, and a week to decide which group you like best.

Very silly question, I know. I just remembered the confusion when Pi Kappa Phi joined our campus, and some people thought it was another Pike (Pi Kappa Alpha was established already at UCF), and then mistakenly started calling the new guys "Pi Phi" (UCF has a Pi Beta Phi chapter, too!)... Pi Kapp as a name caught on quickly and they're a great chapter (in fact, my chapter is paired with them for homecoming this fall!)

Any other Greek Letter confusion from your time in college?

There are a LOT of schools that have both ASA & AST. I'm sure a PNM has gotten confused at some point :)

Mind if I barge into your forum? I thought I might have some insight on the subject. If you want me to go away, please (politely!) say so! ;)

At my undergrad campus we had Alpha Xi Delta and Alpha Gamma Delta. There was definitely no getting the two groups confused! Both groups had very distinct personalities.

Although I did have a good friend of mine comment one night that my letters on my bag looked like they said AXO instead of AXiD. Which was just weird. But he was weird.

Anyways, I could see how there might be more confusion since a Delta looks more like an Omicron then a Gamma looks like a Xi. But I just thought I'd throw in my $0.02. :D

there is an ADPi and an AOPi chapter at UF. the confusion never crossed my mind. but i do see why that could mess with a PNM's mind

kind of like AXO and XO being at the same school

I have seen a few people get confused between aopi and adpi on my old campus... That is why we are told to always make sure to say Alpha Delta Pi and not adpi... This at least distinguishes it a little better...

We have both, and I don't know of anyone who's been confused about it. However, we did have to return our Greek Week shirts one year because the t-shirt guy got confused and put AOPi on them instead of ADPi.
