paying an employment agency

Have any of you gone this route in finding a job. I cannot stand where i am at ...i am completely miserable and the pay sucks.... i have tons of resumes out and no bites and when i do get an interview thats a bout it......

How do they go about doing it in an ag...full payment in one pay check or installments

You should never EVER be paying an agency.
The agency should find you a job and the agency pays you your salary/wage/etc.

This is how it should work, for exampl...The agency finds you a job and they tell you the pay is $12.00/hr. The agency will pay you 9most likely every week) $12.00/hr.
The agency will then charge the company that you are working at say $30.00/hr. So the agency will be making $18.00/hr from the company and you will be making $12.00/hr. That's how these agencies make their money. They should never be taking any money from you or off you rpay check.

like I said before, you will most likely be paid weekly from the agency. You will have to submit a timesheet to them and they will pay you. The agency will set the wage for you.

eta: If you are going to go thrpugh an agency. Be sure to register at as many as you can.

LPP, what you are talking about is a temp agency. I'm not sure but I think cutiepatootie means is more of a headhunter type thing for permanent positions.

Most times I've heard people paying an employment agency, it's usually a scam. Most agencies these days are temp, as well as temp to perm, and perm. But I'm not aware that headhunters need to be paid by the person searching for a job. Usually isn't it the employer paying all of the fees?

I didn't really mean a headhunter, I meant the type of thing where everyone using the agency is searching for permanent stuff, I just couldn't think of the correct term and frankly didn't give enough of a shit to search for it :p

Right. You should never pay any type of employment agency. And you are also correct. Agencies now, do temp, temp to perm and perm.

It's still an employment agency. Most agencies don't call them self temp agencies anymore because they do everything...they place people in temp positions and in permanent positions. It's really to cater to their clients. Whatever the clients are looking for these days, they will do.

I've talked to legal headhunters before, and they NEVER ask for money. If a legitimate headhunter places someone in a position, she gets paid by the firm, not you.
