In the spirit of Valentine's Day...

Okay. Those who know me (and read my response to the othe V-Day post) know that I am no fan of Valentine's Day. The only things that could possibly change my attitude towards the holiday are if I owned a florist or Hallmark shop, or if I could spend a night of shameless passion with Brian McKnight or Kevin Garnett (or for that matter, BOTH). But I digress...

Just for laughs, I thought I'd ask Sorors, Sister Friends and other forum walk-ins to tell us:

What is the WORST V-day gift you've ever received or your WORST V-day experience?

Short of getting nothing and being with nobody, my worst V-day was my freshman year in high school. Our school was huge (1800+), so on V-day, the principle had to literally close classes down just to announce who'd gotten what from where. So, at lunchtime, he got on the intercom system to give the names of each florist (or candy store or whatever) and to read the names of people who'd gotten something from that place. The students were to report to the gym at lunch, go to the table where that florist was set-up (like a college fair), and get their gift. Okay, so it was bad enough I had to sit through over 30 minutes of names, surrounded by squealing, giggling girls who'd heard their names called, and NEVER hearing my own (even some of the guys got stuff)-- BUT, this is the worst part: When it was time for lunch, I went to the gym with one of my friends who'd received 3 bouquets; she couldn't carry all of them so she asked me to carry one. So here I am walking with a dozen roses while everyone is asking, "Wow! Those are beautiful, who got them for you?" Well, I'm right next to my friend, so I can't lie (as I probably would have had I been alone), so EVERY TIME someone asked that (it was at least 10 times), I had to say, "No, these are Raquel's." Man, you can't imagine how uncomfortable that was! From then on, I NEVER went to school on V-day!

My worst gift was a baseball cap which was given to me the day AFTER V-day, STILL in the store bag, and with the tag attached and receipt included! WHAT THE?!?!?!? They say it's the thought that counts-- sometimes I'd rather not be thought about!

Well I would have to agree with yall on that one..When Everone in highschool got something but I never Got squat..Allllll My V-Days especialy my 11th grade year. I was sitting in class mad because evrrybody was geting presents. When They called my name to report to the office. There sitting on the desk were 12 roses and like 10 red, white, pink ballons. I was sooo happy. Then there was a note that said(Monique I love you very much. Will you be my valintine. I was soo happy, that I rushed to my crush in the lunch room, stood on a table in front of EVERYONE, and said..Yes, I'll be your valentine. Alas, around 5 seconds later the principal said* Uh xcuse me , but they want you to return the flowers and balloons to the office, they called the wrong Monique. All i heard was laughing ..How could I forget that his girlfriend name was Monique also. I was talked about for a whole year..Talk about shamed..lol

dang...reading all of this kinda make me glad I went (NOT by choice) to an all-girls high school. but alas, i was running away from the inevitable.

same as y'all, i spent my years in the dorm watching girls come down the hall with HUGE stuffed animals, roses, carnations, candy & all that ... STUFF. but the WORST one had to be my sophomore year. i was chillin in my room with the door open (common practice at ssu) and talking with the my girl across the hall (she was in her room with the door open to...yes, we were ghetto like that). anyway, she gets paged to the lobby & comes back up with the largest arrangement of flowers i've seen in my life from her boyfriend. but guess what? (what?) her boyfriend was my ex. we had broken up like 5 months b4 but we were all cool & i was cool with them dating (they even asked me if i'd be cool with it). the part that got me was he didn't get me flowers like that for the previous valentine's or my birthday. that hurt but what made it worse is i hadn't gotten anything from the only man i could depend on, the only man who had ever gotten me anything for valentine's day: my daddy. he'd forgotten. y'all i cried so hard that night it was pitiful.

and that's my valentine's horror story.

411,

I feel you on the High School drama of V-day. I never received a flower, candy, baloon...NOTHING for V-day. But that is OK. I am working on getting over that!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif

But I must say the worst gift that I got on V-day was my sophmore year of college. I was "dating" (well what I thought was dating) this guy for about 4 months. He had just pledged Alpha, so I bought him an Alpha coozy and a baseball cap. When he got to my house, he gave me a card that was stupid and he sighed it your "???Your Friend????". http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/mad.gif I was more hurt than mad. I really thought we had gone past the "friends" thing. But you live and you learn.
