Taxes/Planning for the future
HOWDY!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif I hope everyone is enjoying their Monday so far & thanking God for seeing fit to let you see another day!
In this season of income taxes, I just wanted to send a reminder out that if you haven't started an investment account, now would be a good time if you're planning to receive a refund. I'm not sure if I mentioned this to y'all, but there are money market accounts out there that you can open with as little as $100. I found one at www.netbank.com. SO, before you go to the mall & buy everything in sight and before you fork over your whole refund to bay off debt, set some funds aside to pay yourself first. Speaking of doing taxes, (yes, I'm feeling rather talkative/helpful today) you can do to www.turbotax.com and do your taxes online (1040 and 1040EZ only). You'll only be charged if you decide to print & mail your return or if you decide to file electronically. There's a tutorial that will walk you through the process & even check your return for mathmatical errors & things that could get you audited. Also, if you adjusted gross income is less than $25k, you can file electronically for FREE. For the small time ballas, the cost is about $15 for federal and $7 for state (if required). Or, if you prefer not to file electronically, Turbo Tax will print out a form that you sign and mail to the IRS. You don't have to worry about having the right form or running to the post office to get extras because you screwed yours up. Neat, huh? That's all I have to say right now. Y'all have a good day! Hi ladies,
12dn94dst, I am glad you posted this topic b/c I am looking to invest some of my money. I already have started my pension plan since I work in the public schools now, and it will roll over when I graduate next year and begin teaching. Now, I am no financial expert, but would you happen to know if you could go through your own bank and/or credit union or would it have to be with a financial group? I trying to read up as much as I can so my money does not fall down the drain. meeks ------------------ The truly educated never graduate! |

Good job on letting folks know about turbo tax. A coworker/soror did hers last week on Turbo Tax and her refund will be here this Friday!! She had to pay $25 but I think this might be because she is married and has been teaching for 15 years or so. Meeks, I am a teacher as well. There are companies that work specifically with teachers to set up annuities, mutual and other investment profiles. Ask your cooperating teacher or teachers in your building about specifics because your district or the credit union might have investment opportunities for you as well. ------------------ Black is a mystery, and part of my history. I would imagine your bank/credit union would have investment plans and they'd even help you choose which plan is right for you (ok, I'm sounding like a commercial). I did an internet search to find the lower opening deposit ones because my bank didn't have any I could afford right now.
The Motley Fool is a good site for those who want to invest but haven't a clue where to begin. it breaks everything down into plain english as much as possible. You can also try www.ka-ching.oxygen.com. |
