Upset

Hi Sisters,
I'm feeling extremely broken hearted right now because only one girl accepted a bid from us. We will be COBing this week so I am sure more will come out. I just can't understand why people want to go to this other GLO instead of ours. We are awesome women and our Rush parties were amazing. I just don't get it. What do you sisters do to keep your #s high? Are you involved in alot? Is Phi Mu big in your region? There are only 2 Phi Mu's in the N.E. and I feel like since girls don't see us everywhere that that could also be hurting us. I dunno, I go to a small school, we don't have houses... Please give me your in put. I'm very proud to be a Sister of Phi Mu, but at this moment I'm dumfounded.

Love in Our Bond,
Emily

Can you tell us more about your school and the greek system tehre? I come from a commuter school with no greek housing for women...but we have a VERY strong greek affairs office, almost every event on this campus is run by the greeks.
In the past the Phi Mu on my campus had a hard time making quota without having to COB, this was the first fall rush we have ever been able to make quota plus additions.
It takes alot of teamwork to make it work.

Maybe formal rush or rush partys arent the way to get girls on your campus

maybe something that will work better would be if every sister invited a girl or a friend maybe from class or that they know to an informal sisterhood gathering like maybe dinner at a resturant or a sporting event, or even more informal a girls movie night at someones home.

sometimes rush events scare off girls who might consider rushing
if its a less formal thing they may see joining an organization as joining a group of friends...instead of joining a greek org. I know many great sisters in my chapter who were rushed in that very way

Sometimes it takes looking at the population of your school and trying to get into the mindset of the girls on your campus...
OHH another thing we would do was scheduled lunch dates, we would all schedule lunch in the student union and be there sitting in letters all together, it may seem small but we always looked like a group of sisters sitting around for lunch, very happy and unified...we'd often invite friends or people from classes to sit with us.

But all in all...be STRONG!! and remember the great qualitys that make Phi Mu unique and special. Keep a smile on your face...Plus, the harder you have to work for it, the greater it will be when it comes. And remember quality not quantity.. make that one Phi feel like the most special person on earth, and invite her into our bond :)

hope this helps even a little...email me if you wanna just talk :)

Thank You Sisters!

Thank You SO much for your advice and kind words, it really made my heart smile :

We just had Informal Rush so it was very low key and fun. We had a cute 50s theme with milkshakes and all!

Every Wednesday we have sister dinner in the commons and eat together with letters on and on Thursdays we eat together dressed up with our badges on.

There are 6 other sororities at my private school of about 5,000, so competition is brutal.

What sucks the most is that we are one of the only GLOs who followed all the panhel rules, i.e. no dirty rushing, and we ended up with the lowest #

This week we will each be bringing a friend to a C.O.B so yay! We are actually up to 4 girls now, but other chpts have up to 15. There is no quota but we would love more quality girls.

Lion Love,
Emily

im sending a hug and plenty of good thoughts your way! i know what it's like to be in a struggling chapter. Let the love and pride for Phi Mu shine though everytime you and your chapter sisters wear your letters and shine!

one idea for COB: sisterhoods to places like sporting events, coffee shops, movies....anywhere you know potential members might see you. not only will your letters be everywhere on campus, you'll also have a great time hanging out with everyone!
