Family Reunion surprise
I just thought I would share this with you all. I was at a family reunion and there was only one other girl my age from the other side of the family there. I was talking to my cousin who was laughing at the fact I had "Ice Ice, Baby" on my iPod. I explained it was because we did it for greek sing. Somy second cousin chimed in when she heard I was "greek" because she was a Tri-Sigma at Hayward State. Unfortunately we didn't start talking towards the end of the reunion, but it was fun while it lasted. Anyone have similar experiences???

Actually, yes! My aunt by marriage had a niece, Beverly. When I was going through Rush, the first ADPi I met was named Bev Richards, and I immediately thought she was my aunt's niece (I hadn't seen her in years, as she's old enough to be my mother) - but she wasn't.
A few years later, I was at a party for my uncle & aunt, and the "real" Bev was there. She said to me, "I didn't know you were an ADPi!" I looked at her and asked her how did she know that. She said that she had seen my name in the Adelphean!! What are the chances of that?! I've also found three great-aunts on my dad's side who were in local sororities at PSU. I can't help but wonder if those locals ever became NPC sororities! |
I was at Christmas dinner about 6 or 7 years ago and I guess my parents were talking about how I was in a sorority...I was sitting at the kiddy table so I had no idea this conversation was going on. (Even though I am older I still have to sit at the kids table because I fall right in the middle of all of the cousin's by age) So my parents were talking with my 2 aunt's and uncle's and also my cousin's in-laws. Next thing I know my cousin's father-in-law comes in singing Edelweiss-- but the ADPi version!! It turns out my cousin's mother-in-law was an ADPi at Susquehanna University!!

My best friend called me the other day to tell me that her niece (who is 4 years younger than us) pledged ADPi at Texas A&M this fall. Groovy! my bf was an AXiD at UT.

In addition, other family members that I have found out were greek along the way...
*One or two of my dad's first cousins are Delta Gamma's from The University of Akron *My Great Aunt (she has passed on) is a Kappa Kappa Gamma from The University of Akron *My Uncle is/was a Phi Sigma Kappa from The University of Akron *My cousin's brother-in-law (his mother is the ADPi) is a member of a fraternity at Miami University, but I do not know which one. Also... *My dad is a Phi Kappa Tau from The University of Akron *My younger sister is an Alpha Chi Omega at Miami University *My first cousin is an Alpha Delta Pi at The University of Akron |
When going home for my grandmothers funeral, I found out that a family friend has 3 daughters who are ADPi's at University of Alabama.
