panhellenic office
ok, i'm planning on running for panhellenic exec for next year, and i was just wondering if anyone knew if i get a npc exec office which adpi offices i can't apply for? the only information i've been able to find is which of our officers can't be recruitment counselors. thanks in advance!

I would start by suggesting that you avoid chapter offices that require a LOT of your time! I would think that any office concerning Recruitment, any of the VP positions, and obviously President would be too much to handle - and still maintain your GPA (and sanity!).
I held both minor & major Panhellenic offices while holding both chairmanships and ME VP, and it will definitely impact your time management skills. Also, you've got to learn to think Panhellenically, even in matters that concern your chapter - not everyone can do this successfully. Best of luck to you, lyrica!! :) |
I'm the last person who would know any of that info, but I wanted to chime in to wish you the best of luck!!!!!!!!

Best of luck, lyrica!
I don't know if I ever knew of a list of positions that a Panhellenic exec officer *shouldn't* hold in ADPi, but I know that the sister from my chapter who was a Panhellenic exec officer held the position of recording secretary and historian the year that she was on Panhellenic exec. Don't know if this helps any, but I just wanted to throw out the information that I had! :) |
Just so you know hon, many people hold exec positions and are on panhel. It really depends on what you feel you can handle stress wise. Weve had Panhel delegates be on Panhel, weve had social chairs, standards, ect.
I would suggest not running for recruitment for your chapter like everyone else has said. It gets to be tricky and you wont be able to be at recruitment to guide the chapter so Id let someone else handle that. President would def be hard too. Dont feel like you cant be on exec and panhell at the same time. Just realize what you can and cant do time wise and go for it. Good luck. Its awesome to see ADPis running for such great campus leadership positions. :) |
Actually, if you get a panhellenic office, you wont be slated for the following:
Recruitment, Formal Recruitment, President, recruitment information officer, and NPC rep. that is simply because it would not benefit the chapter since you would be considered inactive all during formal recruitment. Talk to Jennifer McLendon. She was very active in adpi and was NPC President. She can suggest what jobs would work best together. She is in the Eagle Ambassaders office in the union. I hope that helps. |

Sherra has good advice, too, especially since she knows your campus/chapter. |

I am not sure if there are set rules or not since I was able to do it! But do what Sherra said and contact that person-- or even contact EO and ask! |

Maybe it depends on the campus one is at, however? |
No no no!! In a normal circumstance I would have disaffiliated-- but I did not because I was RVP and in charge of recruitment for ADPi!! If I was not RVP I would have had to disaffiliate and be a Rho Gam!!

This is the part I was referring to-- now how could someone run for recruitment for their chapter and then go an be a Rho Gam? They couldn't!! And what I mean by that is- since you made a commitment to your chapter to be in charge of recruitment, then you are not required to be a Rho Gam (at least that happened with me at Akron). How could a chapter run recruitment without the person in charge? My point was that since I was in charge of recruitment for ADPi-- PHC did not require me to be a Rho Gam!! Lyrica-- Maybe you can check with the Panhellenic Council at your school and see the requirements. If Akron had a requirement that said I could not run for Recruitment for my chapter since I had to be a Rho Gam-- then I would have had to make a choice!! Especially since I ran for RVP after I was appointed to my position on Panhel!! But at Akron that was not the case and it was understood that I would be with my chapter during recruitment and not be a Rho Gam. |
As I remember, being from UNT, there aren't any rules about this. But it isn't fair to either organization to hold a recruitment office and a NPC office. NPC expects you to represent Panhellenic during that time, while ADPi expects the same. Having a recruitment job would be a conflict of interest. So, it comes down to a choice. Again, i suggest talking to Jennifer McLendon. If you want her email address, I'd be happy to pass it on. Jennifer was my Diamond sister. :) Another good one to talk to would be Elizabeth Guithrie. She is an active Alumna that would love to discuss this with you as well. If I remember, she held NPC president also. :)

But as said before-- follow Sherra's advice since she is from your school!! :) |

ok, thats so funny, because i talk to jennifer everyday! since she's housing corp pres and im property manager, we always have something to tell/ask each other. ive talked to her some about this, and she's been nothing but encouraging, and even talked to the current npc pres about me. oh and yes elizabeth was npc pres. and there are rules, at least now, about recruitment positions and being a rho gamma, or a panhell exec officer, because all of panhellenic exec has to disaffiliate for recruitment. from my resources, aka the bylaws, i know the following positions are not allowed to be rho gammas, so i'm guessing that maybe that means you cant hold a npc office (we only have exec) and hold these in adpi: president EVP RVP NMC RIM guard treasurer director of standards formal recruitment chair oh and a btw, im planning on running for one of the smaller exec positions in npc in hopes of getting the hang of it and running for recruitment later, cause i really want to do it and all the reasons i listed earlier in response to honey. |
