National Fraternity Honor Society
I think this thread was accidentally taken down. I know people were contributing to the topic so I decided to open it back up.
For those who don't know, Tau Mu Sigma is an honor society exclusively for fraternity men. You can find more information at the website, www.geocities.com/taumusigmasociety This honor society is to recognize those fraternity men who have exhibited great scholarship, leadership, and interfraternalism on their campus. |

That bites.

That sucks it was taken down. Let me know why it happened TMS.
Just wondering if any other society chapters did a candlelight passing ceremony. I know some chapters do this in their fraternities/sororities. It has helped relieve tension between groups and has led to some improvement in fraternity relations. Just curious if anyone else did this. |
i know a lot of sororities have candle passing, but i've never heard of fraternities. Honestly I can't see guys being down for that sort of thing.....
|
My fraternity chapter and TMS chapter both do it and I think it is pretty beneficial. We get everything out into the open. If you are upset about something, if you are glad about something, pay tribute or thank someone. It is a very good ceremony.
|
I didn't say it couldn't be good or beneficial, it helped my chapter when I was an undergrad a great many times.
So do you not have any trouble with guys being like oh, I think that's lame, why the hell are we doing a candlelight, that's for chicks? Most the guys I know, fraternity or not, would react that way :) |
We call it something else, but we do it, too.
|
We do it and I like it. It's a very good ceremony. Sorry this thread was taken down before. I'm sure I had something to do with it. I just hate when people are so negative about everything. No excuse, but I was having a bad day as well. Don't you love it when your client lies on the stand!!!

I'm also wondering if kddani is talking about the sorority ritual where a candle is passed around a specificied number of times until it is stopped before a particular sister as a means of announcing a laveliering, engagement or the like. Am I wrong? |
I was not referring to candle passes for engagements, pinning, etc. Though we do have those as well.
I was talking about the same candle pass being discussed here. |
Thanks, Danielle. I stand corrected, though I have to admit I had not heard of using candles for the "get something of your chest" type ceremonies. As I indicated, I am used to the gavel being passed for that purpose.
