Dad's 60th Birthday

My dad's 60th birthday is coming up in February. My mom and I are trying to think of something really interesting to do. We'll probably have a big party with lots of Italians dressed up and children running around... so a stripper is out of the question (that was my idea! lol).

So, what does one do that is interesting for a 60th birthday party in February?

For my dad's 60th, we had at least 60 people send him a card (we contacted about 100 to get that 60!), and had a small party. Everyone brought him 60 of something, and he got a real kick out of some of the little treats he got: golf balls, tees, gumballs, Mary Janes (he loved those!), socks, quarters, etc.

It may sound kinda small and silly, but he was like a kid at Christmas!

PS - let me know if you need me to send your dad a card! ;)

Lol that sounds really cute, but this is an Italian man whose hobbies include going to the casino, sitting in the family friend's restaurant all day, driving around to different job sights (construction), and sleeping. Maybe a casino night type of party?

Hmmm... I'm thinking that 60 bocci balls or poker chips may not cut it. The casino night is sounding infinitely better!

how about a 60-person road trip to a casino? I could see a bus load perhaps.

I am picturing the episode of the Sopranos when Tony and Carmela threw the "surprise" party for Carm's father in their backyard. J/K;) I am sure you hear stuff like this a lot.

^^ I like this idea!! that would be a lot of fun :)
Maybe not even 60 people.. what about just family and friends (enough to fill 1 bus..)

I just put together a surprise party for my dad's 60th this past weekend. We invited lots of his old friends, in fact, someone even came all the way from England!!

My brother and I put together a DVD to show at the party: it was a slide show showing pictures from when he was a baby all the way through to the present day. We included music from the different decades (lot's of The Who).

For those who couldn't make it they sent along stories and well wishes which we read out at the party.

My dad had an amazing time!

This is such a great idea. They did this at my mom's retirement dinner from teaching. There wasn't a dry eye in the house.

For my Dad's 60th, we had everybody write up a memory, ensuring that we hit every decade of his life with them. Most were very funny and a couple were tear jerkers.

(Then the old Italian guys got up and sang Volare...LOL... j/k, that's only at weddings!)

My sisters and I threw a surprise party for my mother's birthday. She wasn't surprised; she was shocked. We invited all of her cousins and friends from as far back as grammar school. There were about 85 guests. The party was a great success. :D
