Wild Game anyone?
I was watching Food Network this weekend and they had a special on about a Wild Game Cook-off! It got me thinking, are any of you lovers of wild game? This includes, venison, duck, gator, and snake.
Have any of you ever tried caviar, snails, escargo, frog leg? |
Alligator is on the menu at many cajun style places. I've tried it and it's really good.
|
I've tried venison, duck, rabbit, caviar, and escargot, loved them all.
I especially like venison. The local deer ate my roses - lock and load, it's payback time! :D |
Due to a great uncle who would hunt many more animals than he could eat alone, I've eaten venison, antelope, and moose. Honestly, it wasn't too bad, but I couldn't tell the difference between the three since they all tasted so much alike.

i've had alligator, racoon (i LUV it), goat, caviar, rabbit, antelope, shark... my people are from the country so they have a mentality of "if we kill it, we cook it."

Exotic eats
I adore venison. Wonderful meat.
I've also had antelope, at a restaurant in Charlotte, N.C., 11 years ago or so. I'm a huge caviar fan. My late father was a gourmet of sorts, so I can always get with champagne and caviar. |
I remember my mother preparing venison when I was younger. It's was ok, but it's not on my request list. My parents are from the South and they've eaten wild game. However, not the kid. I just can't get into it. But I do enjoy caviar (started out with American Paddlefish/Roe, need to upgrade).

I've had rabbit, alligator, venison, frog legs, and caviar. I'm not really thrilled about any of them, but don't get me wrong, it's not that they were bad, it's that it was what it was.

I've eaten rabbit (pretty good) and caviar (I'll pass) when I was younger, but I haven't since then.
I always enjoy a nicely roasted duck. This reminds me of a professor of mine who would always tell stories of how he like to eat opposum and racoons. He would say that if we came over to his house, he would have us eating the animals and we would'nt even know it. I used to say "No thank you Professor", lol. You can get frog legs in Coney Island, although I've never eaten any. |
I've had venison, squirrel, 'coon, opossum, quail, frog legs, turtle, alligator
|
Ummm...ewwwww!!!
I will try caviar if I ever have the chance though. |
I forgot rabbit

Steeltrap, if one were to try caviar for the first time what would you recommend? What does Caviar taste like?

Here's a link to a guide on the stuff: http://www.caviarguide.com/index.htm Usually, it's served on toast that has unsalted butter on it and a squeeze of lemon juice. You can also add chopped red onions, capers, and chopped boiled eggs. |
