Ebony Article- 12/00 issue- Whites in HBGLO

Good Morning,

I understand this topic has been posted in other forums. I am posting this to get your opinions on how well this particular article was written. How do you feel about the viewpoint it was written from?

So, if anyone has had a chance to read the article during their busy schedules (GOOD LUCK ON THOSE FINALS), let me know what you think.

I am not asking this question for any particular reason besides my own personal curiosity. I am a journalism major who enjoys reading. This article caught my attention. I was wondering if there were any others who were intrigued by it.

I am not a member of your organization (although I would like to be if God sees fit) and hope you all will not think answering this question is not in the best interest of DST. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/redface.gif)

I've read the article that you are refering to and frankly I have one word to describe it..... TYPICAL. I expected the article to be more in depth. The article really lacked substance. I could have written that article without speaking to any of the individuals that were interviewed. All of them had the same old story with same lame responses.

You know, I thought the same thing about the article. It wasn't deep or even thoughful..just basic responses. I don't particularly feel whites belong in our organizations. I just don't understand how they could "feel" the way we feel about issues that affect blacks...at the same time, my organization doesn't discriminate and its a little hypocritical to say we take a stand against unjust practices if we discriminate ourselves...

Yes, I agree. The article failed to present any opposing viewpoints and it was far too 'politically correct' for my taste.

Thank you all for taking time to reply. I really apppreciate it.

I generally had the same feelings toward the article. I was extremely interested when I saw the headline. Then after reading it, I was very disappointed. I thought since Ebony was an African-american media vehicle it would have been written from the prospective of African-american members.

Thanks again http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Hello Ladies,
I read the article also. I thought it was somewhat interesting to see how white people/caucasians feel about our organizations. It is true that they cannot truly "know" or "feel" what we feel, but I think it is great that they want to be apart of our organizations as helping hands and devoted members. Yes, Ebony could have put more African American responses. That would have given a better picture. As far as being politically correct, I think it's only fair. If the shoe was on the other foot, would you not want political correctness? Anyway, I thought the article was interesting. By being an interracial organization, we are broadening our spectrum in the fight for total equality. No matter what color the skin, sisterhood is sisterhood in the fact that we are all women with a common goal.
