400 richest Americans

Forbes magazine list of the so-called “400 richest Americans.”

Here are some of the good parts:

- Bill Gates is No. 1 again this year with $48 billion, $2 billion more than last year.

- Warren Buffet, the “Oracle of Omaha” is No. 2 again this year with $41 billion.

- Paul Allen, co-founder of Microsoft, is No. 3 with $20 billion.

- Members of Sam Walton’s family (Wal-Mart) take places four through eight.

- Michael Dell (Dell computers) is No. 9 and Larry Ellison (Oracle) is No. 10. The only thing new about the top 10 list this year is that Dell and Ellison traded seats as the shares of Dell outperformed the shares of Oracle.

- The number of billionaires jumped from 262 last year to 313 this year. (That’s because the market rose.)

- The net worth of the 400 topped $1 trillion for the first time since 2000.

- Fifty-one women made this year’s list, one more than last year.

- Returning to the list this year (barely) at No. 400 is Theresa Heinz Kerry, the wife of Presidential candidate, John Kerry.

- Donald Trump, star of the TV hit series “The Apprentice,” slipped three spaces from No. 71 to 74.

I did hear that, should John Kerry win in November, he will be the richest president we've ever had. Whether or not that includes the Heinz fortune, I don't know.

The man I knew who was on that list a few years ago is not on it now. :( How on earth will he ever manage to make ends meet on less than $750 million? :p He will have to tighten that belt!

Kind of blows a hole into the theory that he can represent the common man like he's been trying to :D

The Bush tax cuts probably had little or no effect on his fortune. I'm sure he keeps it overseas and pays minimal taxes.

But W can TOTALLY represent me because we have this huge 700 acre farmette too, just like him, and we also totally used to own a baseball team! He's just like my family! My dad is totally a formal president too.

I am switching my vote RIGHT NOW.

If I remember correctly, W is wealthier than Kerry. Kerry's wife is wealthier than both of them combined.

Bush is not a Democrat. The Republican party supports businesses and small businesses -- in other words, people that work for what they get instead of being the beneficiaries of redistributed wealth.

Yes, there are a few single men on that list. You can actually search for that on the Forbes website. What's your criteria? I'll compile a list of appropriate men for you. ;)

Peaches-n-Cream 09-26-2004 09:24 PM

California here I come...

You can go to California and meet the three single Google billionaires. Actually, most of the single men on the Forbes list live in California.
