5th year status?

I am in my 4th year of college right now, and as we all know elections are coming up in November, and I really want to run for VPPD but I was quickly disheartened when a sister mentioned to me that after 4 years of being active in Alpha Phi (which I am) I will be forced to take alumna status...therefore being ineligible for such a position.

Is this true? I think I might cry if it is. I transferred (as some might know) from SF State to Chico state, and so I really only feel like this is my second year in college because I was pretty miserable at SFSU. I am 21 but so young at heart and so willing to activley participate in Alpha Phi.

No you are not forced to take alum status although many collegiate women choose to do so.

Technically I believe chapters are supposed to vote each year to have the fifth year members be active (whether or not to participate is the choice of the fifth year student), but most chapters don't do this, and I have never heard of any chapter having a rule that fifth years can't hold office.

Beta Theta's current president is a fifth year student, and I don't think she's the first one they've had.

Ditto this. You might wanto check your individual chapter's bylaws, but if that's a rule in their bylaws it doesn't exactly seem too fair...

K *phew* I'm not too worried about it, considered the current exec board is like dying for me to take VPPD and my best friend will be running for president so of course she thinks its a great idea...I'm sure its sometimes better to have wise old farts running things than just being a drain on the chapter by not coming around and stuff.

Sorry to crash your board! I've heard for AXiD, (At least at my school) fifth year members can petition to Nationals if they want to continue being an active member.
Hehe. And I just realized that I didn't check the date on this message before I replied. Sorry if it's a really old message! :)

Thanks for joining us! In Alpha Phi there is no petition involved, just a chapter vote, as mentioned above. This is particularly relevant right now though as chapters are getting ready for elections.
