My latest vent!

I am not sure if this is serious or a joke. My mother is thinking about reserving a site for my future wedding. The thing is that I don't have a boyfriend let alone plans to get married. Here is the interesting part, she got that idea from last week's Cathy comic strips. Here is the link to check out. Please, tell me what you think of my situation. I am on the verge of a major scream fest!

Let her spend her money reserving a site but tell her that you exercise your right to not use it when you do decide to find a man & get married.

Parents need to stop trying to live through their children. Tell her if she wants to reserve a site, she can have her own wedding.

Co-sign.

AKA_Monet, I like the way you think. <evil grin>

Um, weird? Tell her "no."

I mean really, if she reserves a site, she probably would have to pick a date too. So, what will she do? Start to pressure you as the date approaches? And how weird would it be for a guy your dating if he accidentally found out you had a pre-set wedding date?

I think it would put the poor bloke in a spot and that wouldn't be fair for him.

I once saw an episode of the View a long long time ago where they were discussing 30-something women who were stressed out that they hadnt found a husband. So this "expert" that was on the show suggested these women go out and have wedding invitations made with a date set for like 2-3 yrs from now (or for whenever you want to be married by) and send them out. Apparently the point was to light a fire under the girl's ass and find someone by the set date. I thought that was the oddest thing I had ever heard. First off, what do put on the invitations??? "You are cordially invited to the wedding of <bride's name> and ______" And secondly like sororitygirl mentioned, how the hell do you explain that to the guy (assuming you found someone worthy enough to marry)??

Anyways back to the issue at hand, is there a reason your mom wants to reserve this place so early in advance? Will it not be available whenever you do choose to get married? I knew a guy in college whose dad had reserved a popular church for like 2007 for any one of his kids that might end up getting married around that time. One of my sorority sisters was dating this guy and it always freaked her out that their wedding was being planned long before she met him. Just explain to your mom you appreciate the offer but it's not something you want to consider at the present time. Good luck!
