I am supersingle at the moment, and have been doing a lot of dating. I've run into some characters, and I thought I'd start a thread on things boys (or girls) have said to you on dates that were funny, or that made you go
|
The one thing that made me go  was:
Ex-boytoy: "Would you give up your dream job to travel [God knows where to . . . as in Podunk, USA] for my calling as a youth minister?" Moi: "Hell no!" Ex-boytoy: "Well, that's not fair!" Moi: "Well, let me ask you the same question. 'Would you be content on living in a big city, such as NYC, for my career?'" Ex-boytoy: "No." Moi: "OK. Now you know how I'd feel." Ex-boytoy: "Well, the wife should follow her husband around and make all of the compromises." Moi:        |
I will share a few from my date on Saturday:
Scenario 1-(this one is phone conversation pre-date) Me (in a polite tone): Well, thanks for calling. I'm excited to see you on Saturday. Date: You don't know how excited you are. Me:  Scenario 2- Date: The girl I was standing next to (while he was waiting for me) told me I was naive. Me: There's nothing wrong with that. Date: I'm not naive, but I do think she is jaded. Me: Jaded people frequently think un-jaded people are naive. Date: I can tell you are naive. Me: um. I am trusting. Date: No, I like it. I don't want girls to be too smart . Me:    (and I'm a feminist!) |
I jokingly asked a blind date "Any felony convictions?" and he replied "Just one" .. and he was serious!

hahahaha!! See.. that's something I would say in jest if I was asked! |
I said the same to a POTENTIAL date. Only about parole. And he was like, Well, the thing IS....
|
I can't see most of you finding people to date you girls. Is that a bad thing to say or just an opinion? Perhaps it's something funny.

My thing is, if I'm going to pay you to go on a date with me, you should at least be presentable. Especially with the amount I'm paying. |

As long as you let me lead you around by guiding the back of your neck with my manly hand, we'll be fine.

And I can't see anyone wanting to date you either. But who knows, you might hide your cockiness and chauvinism in person. |

"My last girlfriend was a 10 in looks but only a 4 in personality and you're only an 8 in looks but you're a 10 in personality."
WTH???? |

adj : overly self-confident or self-assertive; "a very cocky young man" Hmmm I didn't say anything about me - just you girls. So really if we're speaking English, this wouldn't fit the bill here. chau·vin·ism ( P ) Pronunciation Key (shv-nzm) n. Militant devotion to and glorification of one's country; fanatical patriotism. Prejudiced belief in the superiority of one's own gender, group, or kind: “the chauvinism... of making extraterrestrial life in our own image” (Henry S.F. Cooper, Jr.). Now I'm assuming we're talking about my gender here since you're a girl. Not only do I not qualify under the other definitions, but this one is ridiculous since I made no claim whatsoever to my gender being superior. In fact even in other threads, I've been self-confident but not cocky and definitely not chauvinistic. So the question is, do we use the same version of English? -Rudey |
