Gays Pledging

I saw this subject discussed in another forum and I thought it was a very interesting topic. I wanted to get the view of my sorors on this very controversial topic. If you knew a young lady was gay or had homosexual tendicies would you welcome her into our sorority? If you knew of a soror that was gay would you feel that she was disrespecting the sorority? I greatly appreciate your thoughts on this topic, but please be kind in your responses. Everyone's views are different so please try not to offend anyone.

Yours in Delta,

I would not have a problem with a homosexual pledging because I don't think it would hinder or hurt the sorority. I do know one soror who is gay but her private life is not a problem for me. She is a dedicated member and a good friend of mine.

Being an out and proud lesbian and a member of Delta Sigma Theta. i encourage those that are in the lifestyle, who feel they are qualified to pursue DST. i do believe it is personal business that shouldn't be put on front street because we are living in a society that yet still does not know how to handle homosexuality.

in my years as a member of DST and in being a lesbian, i have come across quite a few greeks in all BGLO's that are gay (and i mean all BGLO's) i have also come across the mean and rude comments. i don't let that hinder me in anything i do.

lie is all about respect and boundaries...don't disrepect and don't cross any boundaries.

MaMaBuddha,

If this question is a bad one, please excuse me but.... When did you let the ladies of DST know that you were a lesbian? I think that this shows that you are a VERY strong woman. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

a woman's sexual orientation, in my mind, has NOTHING to do with how well and how hard she will work for DST. mine is not to judge her for her lifestyle choice, just like it is not hers to judge me for mine. i wonder if the script were flipped...if we were a predominately homosexual society, would we be asking these same questions.....

I agree that your sexual preference is not the factor of how well you uphold the honors of what ever responsibilities that you have. It shouldn't be a thing of holding up your head, your head should be held high anyway. I do agree with gypsy when she/he says that people that are gay/lesbian and let the world know....are very strong. They are strong because they come out KNOWING that the world is a cruel place. Everybody is not of a open mind and some find things like this just as important as hair color. The reason why I say that it is not important to some is because it isn't important to me. Sexual preference definately doesn't change or make up my mind about anyone, CHARACTER does. I hate to say it but.... IGNORANCE RULES THE WORLD!!!

Greetings ladies,

I am assuming that someone read the topic posted at the Alpha site. I have read your posts and they offer much respect to your soror. Unfortunately, we live in a society that is not as accepting as some of you. Perhaps women are more accepting of homosexuals than men are. While I believe what a person does in the privacy of his or her own home is private, I think it takes a great deal of courage for your soror to share her preference.
