What are some things your chapter does to make initiation special for new members?

In my chapter, each sister writes an inspirational note to the new member about a week before. All the letters are kept in a gift bag and given to her on initiation day.

Also, it's tradition for your big sis to give you a set of pearls to wear with your whites.

I can neither confirm nor deny the existance of any kind of "initiation".

Wow, isn't that expensive?

A sister is assigned to a new member, and this sister is in charge of decorating a box for her. Each collegian writes a note/card/whatever welcoming the girl into the sisterhood. All these good thoughts are placed in the box next to the pillow made by her sis-mom (we don't do paddles).

No, they don't have to be real ;)

They get decorative Paddles. Strictly ornamental I might add. And there are specific Family traditions that make it special for each girl. Also, they get unity letters and a whole bunch of crap!! I really like the idea of the letters from each member. We do something like that as a sisterhood activity where we pass around a sheet with each member's name on it and each person writes one good thing about that person.
