Earthsea

just saw an ad for the Earthsea mini-series on Sci Fi. Does anyone else remember reading those books in middle school? I really liked them. I read that Kristen Kreuk and Shawn Ashmore will be the lead roles which is promising. I bet Kreuk could kick some ass Tenar style if she needed to.

I read them. Should be interesting. I don't remember Tenar being an action heroine though :)

I read the first three a long time ago....but apparently there are like five out now. Haven't read the other two. A mini series will be....odd.

I've read the first four... I didn't realize there was a fifth one. I did a huge project on Ursula LeGuin in terms of her Taoist beliefs back in middle school. I really want to see these movies.

IIRC, the last of the series came out not long ago and wasn't, erm, well received.

Why would a mini-series of the book be odd? I think it could be really awesome. Le Guin has a fantastic, visual flair to her writing and I think Sci Fi will do a great job realizing it.

If they do a mini-series, maybe it will get a happy ending. This whole retiring from Magery, losing your powers, and marrying a goat hered isn't very inspiring.

What are you talking about? That was one of my favorite part of the books. TRUE LOVE. Need I say more?

I never liked Earthsea that much. There are a few much better series out there that I would like to see made into a mini-series berfore this one.

Jaggergirl 10-12-2004 11:26 AM

maybe but I'm still pretty pscyhed that its being made. Earthsea, IMO, never got the recognition it deserved as a great Sci Fi series.

Did anyone check out the new website for it? Its really well done. Can't wait for December.

bump to share that there is a newtrailer up!

Trailer's awesome.

I only recently started reading Earthsea and have been loving the books.

I'm excited to see that someone's adapting it to TV -- plus we get the yummy Shawn Ashmore...

Sounds promising, i'll tune in.

Totally. The whole production just looks beautiful and I can't wait to see how they bring Le Guin's work to life.

Two weeks left until the premiere!!

A friend of mine, while flying home for winter break said she saw commercials on the airplane.

Go figure

Jaggergirl 12-06-2004 04:46 PM

seriously? Thats cool. I saw one in a theater the other day but I an airplane would've taken me by surprise.

I was looking at the site the other day and found this wizard stuff. Kinda fun. Never thought you could get a wizard certification before.

Okay so the show comes on on the 13th? I'm so there.

The only thing a little off was the casting . . .

Ged is supposed to be really dark in the book and Tenar is supposed to be very pale . . .

I didn't the girl they cast for Tenar had the kind of look that the book portrays . . .
