What makes someone a LEGEND?

I read a recent article where Lauren Baccall (actress) said that Nicole Kidman is no legend as far as actors are concerned. In YOUR opinion, what constitues someone being labeled a Legend in their respective (entertainment) career?

In my humble opinion, LL Cool J is a LEGEND. 11 albums and more importantly LONGEVITY in music ESPECIALLY rap music?! His career is unparralelled. I heard his new CD is the bomb too. He is one of the VERY few rappers that we have had the pleasure to see grow(and get FINNNNNNNNEr) as an artist and as a person. We have seen him go from Kangols and sweats to Bald head and suits. I consider myself priveleged.

To be deemed a legend a person should have had such a profound impact on their field that even after their death, their name is one of the few names that automatically come to mind when the subject of their field is brought up. Not only is longevity of their career a factor, but usually the person altered the field in some way -maybe by creating a new technique, or simply mastering an existing technique. Also, the legends are usually the ones whose style (or technique) is copied, emulated the most You know, like the first and finest of 1908 :p

Why don't you back that up two more years and I'll co-sign everything you said.

Someone who has talent. Can convay a message and connect to any audience, plus can stay around longer than 3 seconds. Someone who is passionate about their art and has great respect for it and those who paved the way for them to achieve their greatness. And can stay around longer than three seconds.

I'm not sure you can attain legend status for some years after your prime. Whether it be sports, entertainment or whatever, I'm a believer that it takes time after one's career is over to truly judge their lasting effects on culture.

Now, that isn't to say that we can't call someone like Barry Bonds, Michael Jordan or Tony Bennett a legend right now. However, I think with most people it takes time.
