Great Recruitment News!!!
So recruitment started at my school today. Freshmen aren't allowed to rush and Greek Life is really small at my school so fall recruitment is usually only a very small number, last year only 8 girls came. Well I just came back from night 1, and we had 18 girls show up!!!!!!! We are all ecstatic. :D Just wanted to share the good news... :)

An update:
Tonight was night 2 and we had some new girls come so now the total number of rushees is at 22! :D Quota is probably going to be 5 or 6. The way we do formal rush is that each rushee gets a bid as long as she comes to at least 2 nights of formal rush. |
Congratulations! That is wonderful news! Do keep us posted about your school's recruitment!

Update:
Tonight was the last night of rush. There are a total of 20 girls that are eligible for bids. Each sorority is giving out 5 bids and can open bid up to 3 girls. Pref parties are tomorrow and Sunday. I can't wait to see how many girls we get and to reaffiliate with my sorority. :D |
Sounds like everything is going very well! Good for you!
|
Sounds great. How many students (total) are on your campus?

An update: pref parties were on Friday and today. We usually do them on Saturday and Sunday but we changed it this year because of September 11th. My sorority invited all of the rushees back for prefs. We only had three girls show up. :( I'm upset because I've heard a lot of rushees talking about sororities since I'm Rho Chi and I know that they all want the same two sororities and they all said they're going to Open Bid. Each sorority can only give out 5 bids and can open bid a maximum of three. We've all tried to discourage open bidding because each rushee is guaranteed a bid and we don't want rushees to end up with no sororities. I'm just worried that my sorority won't have a pledge class at all this semester and what makes it even worse is that in October will be 15 years of KLP at Marist and in April it's 25 years of KLP, and when we have our Alumnae reunion in October, it's gonna be a big one and it's going to really suck if we don't have any pledges. :(
Sorry for the long post, just had to vent. |
With that small a pool, don't you think that y'all could sign more people by relying solely on COB-style rush?
Even for a campus of 3600, having a total of 20 going through seems very small. The system needs to recruit incoming students better than that. |
I agree that they need to do a better job of publicizing rush, but COB only wouldn't solve that - it would only exacerbate the problem.
|
Well, 33, with so few going through Rush, some houses signing 11 and others signing 3, I wouldn't see much of an alternative.
Now if they could go out and recruit individuals like fraternities do... it seems like the "everyone for themselves" system might do best in a place like that. It allows the recruitment process to be more gradual, less formal and it rewards those who try the hardest. |
