Rock the Vote!
 

It's that time of the year and I hope that everyone is registered to vote. If not, it's time to get registered and organize those voter registration drives.

Get set up for the beginning of the school year at your colleges and universities. Also organize drives at the local high schools for those who will be 18 years old.

I agree. I get so sick of people that don't vote talking about what is and is not this way that way or the other. Shut up go vote and make it the way it the way you want it to be. i may be a little extreme but I don't even speak with people especially blacks if I find out they are not at least registered to vote. If they are registered and did not vote I hound them until the next election somes around and they actually go and vote. Voting is something that I take very serious and i have done it FAITHFULLY every since I was 18 years old. I don't understand anyone can not vote. I hope and pray that no one in this forum is like that. If you are REDISTER AND THEN GO AND VOTE DON'T MAKE ALL OF THE DEATH, BLOOD, SWEAT, TEARS, AND STRUGLLE OF NOT ONLY YOUR ANCESTORS BUT ALL PEOPLE IN VAIN!!!

A quick word of advice - that energy should be utilized in organizing drives. If you don't speak to them (and perhaps you were exaggerating a little) how will they know the importance of voting?

A GREAT public service project is to just go to the local city hall and have them help you set up a voter registration table. It's not hard and on a college campus you will sign up a lot of freshman

I remember when our chapter did a voter registration drive. We had a great turnout. There are two things to be concerned with: students already registered in another county or students living on campus or in the town, but still listing their parent's address as their home address. If they are one of these things, they aren't eligible. But in all, I think this is a great Social action project.

The September issue of The Source Magazine has a very informative 22 page spread on voting. It even breaks up all of the issues and where each candidate stands on them. You guys should pick it up.

I help whenever and wherever I can. I bring everyone I know the voter registration papers or take them by the booth. I tell them to tell people that they know. When I go to register and to vote I have a group with me. Most of the time the registration drives are sponsered by greeks and they just tell you to bring people by and spread the word. I do encourage people to go but I can't make them. If they are in my circle of friends they know what the deal is when it's time to vote. I even ask strangers although I am not as pushy with them (people are crazy these days) http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif I do try to help and encourage but after I tell you and bring you the papers or walk you over there and you still do nothing my words are limited for you for a while. It's extreme but all of my friends vote...

A lot of people don't realize how informative it is. I have learned about numerous things going on in the world that I wouldn't have known about just from reading the paper. Everyone should pick it up.

Nubian, you have a couple of choices,
1) you can change your registration and vote in your college town, which means you would not only be voting for the national elections but the state/local elections in that city as well.

2) You can keep your registration at your parent's address and vote absentee ballot. You do not have to actually go home (which may be a hardship, depending on how far a way you are), but you can still participate on the local level in your home town, where you may have access to more information about candidates, etc.

The choice is yours. When I was in college I saw people do it both ways, although most people simply registered in their college town because it was easier. I will tell you some 'town folks' don't like this because it may tilt the results in the favor of folks who are basically part time citizens. I say it doesn't matter where you vote, just be an informed voter!

I have a question...

I attend school in another town, and my voter registration card list my parents address, if I leave it that way will I be able to vote in my school's town (I'm mainly focusing on the national election) or should I come home to vote?
