Republican Convention

I did not find a thread for this in the entertainment section, so I started one.

What did you all think?

moe.ron 09-03-2004 12:50 AM

In term of entertainment value? Just like any other national conventions, I felt like I was watching a pep rally.

What an interesting thought. Maybe the conventions do belong in the Entertainment forum. There's sure not much news value there these days -- at least in terms of what there was in the past.

These both were highly produced program length commercials.

Okay, I have a question.

I'm reading in the paper this morning that Bush accpeted is nomination as the Republican presidential candidate. What I don't understand is, didn't he already accept in nomination. Did the paper get their info wrong? Or was this more of a formality than anything else?

Yup. It's pretty rare these days for there to be a question of who will get nominated by the time the convention comes around.

No, no and Yes.

While both candidates were known well before the now, they aren't official candidates until actually nominated by the conventions -- and they can't officially accept until they are nominated.

As an independent (who tends to lean Democrat), I tried to watch parts of the RNC but I keep getting completely disgusted and have to turn it off after 5 minutes. They are spending the majority of their time bashing Kerry and not talking about what they stand for. Also, I was personally offended by the RNC displaying wives of men who died Sept 11th...I think it's appalling the way Bush is using the pain of 9/11 to get re-elected.

I had an especially raucous time counting the double (and triple) chins in the audience during Bush's speech.

There were a lot of women with bad dye jobs with physiques that, for some reason, reminded me of T-ball. ;) Ha ha ha!

Munchkin, I only read this thread because I saw that you posted in it. As usual you have me CTFU.

[putting on my "old" hat] I miss the good ole days when you really didn't know who was going to be nominated until the roll call vote of the states. You also never knew who the vice-presidential nominee was going to be until the presidential candidate announced it.

My roommates and I enjoyed playing drinking games during Bush's speech. We drank on "freedom", "terrorism", "America/Americans", "values", and "liberty". It was fun times- and we got pretty drunk.

I'm going to have to do this anytime the President is on TV from now on. I would have the best time ever during boring speeches!

moe.ron 09-04-2004 04:13 PM

Don't forget about doing a shot for "evil dooers." You'll be on the floor in no time.

That would be a good one too! Not to worry though, I'm 21 so I'm legally allowed to drink to the president's speeches. We also did it during the olympics, anytime the word "medal" or "record" was mentioned. It got a little out of control anytime Michael Phelps was on screen though.

I always wanted to know how someone is picked to be a convention goer/constituete ( spl) that are on the floor from each state
