AI as an undergrad?
I'm not talking about becoming an alumna initiate as an 18 y.o frosh... but I do have a scenario.
I know someone who transferred to Sac State and is interested in formal recruitment (at least the last time I checked.) The thing that concerns me is that she is graduating college next spring. Worst case scenario: she goes thru formal recruitment this fall and gets heavily cut because of her age and grade level. My question is can someone go through AI as an undergrad since traditional formal recruitment and new membership may not work out for her? Or should she just wait until she graduates? |
My suggestion....
Wait. Phi Mu's have rules regarding collegiate age women and Alumna Initiation. Your friend would not qualify under the circumstances you outlined. |
If she is married or has a child she may qualify for AI while still an undergrad. Another option is if she has all the requirements for her degree, but is just doing another semester, she can get a letter from the registrar saying so, and thus because she has techincally graduated may be eligible.
But really...what is a few more months...? Why not just wait till she has her degree and then do it, a lot less hassle in my opinion. Good Luck to her though! |
No AI as an undergrad.

I doubt AI would be an option for someone who is still an undergrad under most circumstances.
She might want to think about going through formal recruitment as a way of gathering more information about the sororities represented there. If she gets a bid, great. If not, she's learned more about those particular sororities and has gotten to know members who might help smooth the path to AI down the road. |

It's always been my understanding that AI was not allowed during undergrad, period. Kinda takes away from the term "alumnae". |
No AI for an undergrad for us either
|
Thanks for the responses. I was just curious if you were thisclose to finishing undergrad work, you may be able to sneak in. But guess not. And your reasoning makes sense.

NO AI as an undergrad in Alpha Phi either.
|
hmm...
Txtiger, you should know whose point you are disputing before you try to argue. You are wrong and aphigal is correct.
|
Even if a regional team does suggest AI, it would have to be cleared by Internationals before the candidate could be initiated -- and they wouldn't approve an undergrad for it. bruinaphi and aphigal are correct.
