Bush Twins/Convention

So what did you all think tonight of the Twins intorduction speech to introduce George W?

IowaStatePhiPsi 09-01-2004 07:00 AM

the whole "we were young and irresponsible" was a nice touch. Good to see GW taught them responsibility and integrity.
(Although I liked Arny's "the soviets harassed my nazi dad" bit much better)

They seem to be doing okay. Yeah, they go out for a drink, etc. One had a fake ID.. So? They behaved like normal college students.

Those who live in glass houses...

I've never been a fan of Dubya, but it's nice to see his twins out and about these days.

I read something disturbing in a friend's LJ today, and he went as far as to say something along the lines of "Barbara's really cute, but Jenna looks like she's been beaten by the ugly stick."

That was just wrong.

I don't care for their father too much, but I'm glad to see that these girls are doing the most they can for their community and for the world.

The Thetas I'm sure are very proud.

I'm a staunch Republican and I was really looking forward to hearing from the Bush daughters. Unfortunately, they made me cringe. I was not impressed with their giggly, goofy speech. I found myself thinking, "They sound like sorority girls.".

I think that for their age and their experience, they should have come across with more class and maturity. I understand being nervous. But they didn't inspire me with thoughts of presidential dignity, like their mother does. I could easily picture them at a keg party. Not that there's anything wrong with that... but there's a time and place and this wasn't it.

I'm sure they don't have that much experience speaking to thousands of people, being on TV, etc. Few of us do.

No, I don't think they were as good as the Kerry daughters -- but the Kerry daughters came across rehearsed and fake with that stupid hamster story.

Calling daughters of presidents ugly is nothing new. Remember what people said about Chelsea Clinton? Very hurtful things.

Considering everything, I think they did okay.

They came across as NORMAL to me...and I think that disturbs a lot of people LOL. I think some people expect people in positions like that to be super-human and expect them not to make mistakes. Who wouldn't be nervous/excited speaking at the Presidential convention? I liked it..but I liked their mom's speech much more..she's such a classy lady and she makes Dubya look good!

I think they came off fine...people forget that they're college-age adults. Maturity-wise, they're at the same point a lot of us are; I don't think that's a concern.

To get up on stage, in front of all those people, and speak for your father as he runs for President of the USA...that's a lot of pressure, and I think they handled it well.

I think that the Bush twins are lovely young women. :)

I think it's nice to see normal Presidential kids for a change - meaning they don't appear super-human and they make the same mistakes the rest of us do/did. My husband and I actually had great fun with the "shake it like a polaroid picture" comment. We though it was hilarious. We just need to keep in mind that they are 22, and just graduated from college. They have also been shielded from the media until now. This is really the first time they have spoken in front of thousands of people and on national TV - I say we cut them a break.

They are human...I like the fact that they act like that. The Kerry girls come off as very fake to me. I think they share the same speech writer as their father.

I agree that whoever wrote their speech should be get a pay cut. As for their awardness in front of the public, I think they were less than thrilled with having to spout such nonsense. It showed in their delivery of the lines.

You know what? Arnold has accepted the shame of his family's past and made good on those problems. He has made good on it to the point that most Jews accept him and congratulate him. You do know who Jews are in Iowa right? So stop bringing this up to try and make him look bad. The problem with the Soviets was one of freedom which affected everyone including Arnold and wasn't just his dad.

I agree, but I thought the speech writer was lousy - too many inside jokes. If you didn't know the names of the various White House personnel, you didn't catch half the jokes.

But I think they're adorable, and I just LOVED Laura's speech!
