Rush question
I was rushing at UCF and the only house i really liked was ZTA but they dropped me after the first day! Do they usually have COB? Can I still do it even though I dropped out from formal recruitment? Any help thanks!

Yes you can still COB, but I am basing that on Winthrop Univ. policy. If I were you, just check with your Greek Advisor at UCF and he or she will be able to tell you for certain. As far as I know, you are still allowed to COB.

Chapters can only COB under 2 circumstances:
1) they did not achieve quota during formal recruitment or 2) they are not at campus total for membership If you dropped out of recruitment before signing a preference card you are eligible for COB. I would suggest, however, that you keep all your options open in terms of COB and not concentrate on only 1 chapter. Althought ZTA may have really captured your attention during formal, it could be that the informal nature of COB will allow you to see a side of the other groups on campus that may have been overshadowed by the stress of formal recruitment. In otherwords, a chapter that you may not have liked during Formal, may appeal to you via COB. Also, you need to examine why you may have been cut - grades are usually the first level in many (not all) chapters. If your GPA is lower than say, 2.5, the chances of any group offering you membership may be slim until the GPA comes up. I don't know your particular situation, so I'm just throwing out food for thought. Regardless, I hope you give COB a try whether or not ZTA is open to participate! Good luck! |
UCF does have COB but, like PenguinTrax said, chapters only participate if they did not receive quota or if they are not at chapter total. I know you may have your heart set on ZTA but, in all honesty, the Eta Kappa chapter has consistently made quota and they are way above chapter total. Luckily, there are 9 other great sororities on UCF's campus to choose from. Plus, AEPhi is colonizing this Fall. I think you should look into COB and give the other groups a chance.

They are correct that you should keep your mind open to others, but if ZTA is where you set your heart, talk to the sisters and your greek advisor. Spend the next year getting to know the sisters at the chapter. If it was your grades, work on it and demonstrate that you will work hard for what you want. Some things are worth waiting for, and maybe this wasn't your year. Maybe next year will be. Good Luck.
