For all of you medical gurus....

I was talking with a friend of mine yesterday and she mentioned wanting to go into Nuclear Medicine. Her friend's mom told her she only had to go to school for one year to 'be the person that starts an IV and injects you with dye for when you're going to have an MRI or a body scan or something'. Has anyone any insight on this type of work?? It sounds interesting, but I don't think I've ever heard of anyone having a job where that's ALL they do.

Sounds like she'd be a medical assistant in a radiology department.

That's what I was thinking - but I'm used to MA's going to school for about 18 months.

Here's a Nuclear Medicine Program from the Michener Institute in Toronto. It's a 3 year program.

There are different ways you can go with it - you can be a tech, and that takes a year or two of school. There are also some physicians who have nuclear medicine/imaging/etc. as their specialty, but they have gone to med. school and gotten their M.D. It depends on what exactly you wish to pursue.
